Saturday afternoon R&D.

I've seen enough crab cakes over the years to know nobody ever really finishes a recipe. They just stop tinkering with it for a while.

This latest version is topped with a bright tropical salsa and resting on a Meyer lemon aioli.

I think it's headed in the right direction.

One thing I've come to appreciate about Best of the River Valley isn't who wins.

It's the spotlight.

For a few weeks each year, local businesses are introduced to people who may have never heard of them otherwise. New restaurants, shops, photographers, florists, caterers, and countless others get a chance to be discovered.

Thats where the magic of this truly lives.

So, a tip of the hat to Brent Powers and the team Valley Democrat Gazette for creating a space that helps connect our community with the people and businesses that make the River Valley unique.

And for Secret Spoon Society, it's pretty cool just to be in the room.

What if?

There was a table.

A table where strangers become friends, ideas are shared, bread is broken, and dinner becomes something more than dinner.

I've been exploring the idea of a recurring Secret Spoon Society gathering series and am beginning to explore where it might live. A private dining room, a creative space, or even a gracious host willing to share their table.

If a place comes to mind, I'd love to hear from you.

Curiosity is key.

Somewhere between the first course and dessert, the conversation turned to stories from twenty years ago.

That's my favorite part.

With two Best of the River Valley nominations on the line, it was time to expand the team.

Meet Cheesy, Employee #002.

Early reports are mixed.

Behind every plate is a reason.

This weekend, that reason was celebrating 20 years of growth, partnership, and togetherness.

I'm continually humbled by the trust people place in me to help celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, milestones, and moments that matter. It's never lost on me what a privilege that is.

So here's a look at a recent evening spent telling a story through food.

And if there's a celebration on your horizon, I'd love to help tell that story.

Curiosity is key.
