September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, designated by Congress to help focus attention on the need for research
and treatment of sickle cell disease.

On behalf of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Lee County,
we encourage our SWFL community to be a part of this annual effort to increase awareness about sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait during the month of September.

Individuals and organizations can join our efforts to bring attention to sickle cell disease by engaging elected officials for proclamations, hosting awareness events, distributing educational information to dispel the myths about sickle cell disease, and lighting public spaces, buildings and landmarks red!

We would like to invite you to attend our September Awareness "Chat & Chew" luncheon sponsored by Vertex Pharmaceuticals.
Ms. Wanda Vazquez, MBA- will be our guest speaker for this event, as she is the Patient Educator for Vertex.
It is my hopes that MORE individuals in our community will participate in this educational event.

It was a great experience and a wonderful turnout.

I received several requests to repeat the event and I will be working on it.

We are halfway through the week and grasping for the weekend to enjoy the beautiful Summer weather.🌞😎
Nothing says Summer weekend like a Delicious $4 Summer Treat from Empress Delectable Delites.
Empress Delectable Delites is back again this week with another $4 Friday at Quality Life Center of Southwest Florida, Inc.

Stop by QLC this Friday and get your hands on some of the BEST treats in the 239. 🍪🍰🧁🥮
We’ve got some new flavors for you to try out as well.
In case you missed it last week, we’re bringing back the Dubai Chocolate Brownies and because one flavor isn’t enough we’re also adding two more creations: Dubai Chocolate Cake and Dubai Cheesecake Cups.
In the words of the late Michael Jackson, “Don’t Stop ‘til you Get Enough!” And there’s more!!! 🤗

We’ve also added 2 New Cookie flavors to our Dessert collection:
Mini Peanut Butter Cup Cookies and the Cinnamon Toast Snickerdoodle.

The only thing that is left to say is “Summer is Served!”

As if my day of baking for Quality Life Center of Southwest Florida, Inc.
wasn’t enough.

Somehow in between the measuring, mixing and baking, I had to make time to make my FIRST Watermelon Cake platter.
The last time I made something similar to this, I made it with my niece and it certainly wasn’t as EXTRAVAGANT as this one.

I make cakes, but never anything quite this dramatic or beautiful.
The second LaShaun Middlebrooks asked if I could make a Watermelon cake, I accepted the offer and the challenge and in the words of
Frank Sinatra, “I Did it My Way!”

The result is part fruit platter, part edible centerpiece, and honestly one of the prettiest things I’ve ever made with Watermelon.
Layered rounds of fresh watermelon are stacked like a traditional cake, then decorated with Berries, Oranges, and Kiwi.
Ohhh but did I mention that I got a little CREATIVE and made some 4th of July stars ⭐️ to make it a little festive!
I’m so PROUD of where God is taking me “Sight beyond what I can see!”

So, if you’re looking for a show-stopping centerpiece for a baby shower, bridal shower, backyard barbecue or summer birthday party, this Watermelon cake definitely delivers.

Shout out to my son for taking the pictures, as I was so busy with the baking that I forgot to capture this.
