Fun fact: One of the most colorful early owners of the Highlands Ranch Mansion was John W. Springer, a wealthy cattle baron and politician who bought the estate in 1897.
Springer expanded the original stone farmhouse into a grand, castle-like estate complete with a turret. He even added a private, one-lane bowling alley on the property to entertain Denver's high society! However, his time at the mansion ended dramatically after his second wife, Isabel, became entangled in a sensational love triangle and murder scandal at Denver's famous Brown Palace Hotel—prompting Springer to quickly divorce her and sell the ranch.
