❌ In-house catering disguised as “convenience.” It sounds easy, but being locked into one menu, one chef, and one service style can seriously limit the dining experience you want to create. If you’re hoping for something more curated, cultural, or interactive, this “perk” gets restrictive fast.

❌ A mandatory “preferred vendor” list. A thoughtful recommendation list is great. I required one? That usually means you lose the freedom to work with the vendors who actually matched your vibe, budget, or personality.

❌ Tight load-in or load-out windows. When Venue’s limit set up or require everything to be torn down the same day, it spikes labor cost, and adds unnecessary pressure to your timeline.

❌ A per person right that’s only half the story. That $200 price tag rarely include service fees, taxes, admin charges, or extra line items once everything’s added up, the real cost per guest can be a shock.

❌ Bundled “complimentary” coordination. An on-site coordinator is valuable, but their job is to advocate for the venue, not run your full timeline or manage your vendor team. They’re not a replacement for a planner dedicated to you and your vision.

Bottom line: venue perks aren’t automatically bad, but they’re often not the deal they appear to be. Look past the buzz words, dig into the details, and choose the perks that genuinely elevate your experience not just the ones that add to the sales brochure.
