Fort Lauderdale Tech Meetup

Fort Lauderdale Tech Meetup A social gathering for people in tech.

05/26/2026

At the Fort Lauderdale Tech Meetup, #29 Nathan Heber shared what creativity really looks like:

🔹 No budget is not an excuse.

They couldn’t afford a booth.
They didn’t get space at the event.

👉 So they created their own.

A branded golf cart.
Loud.
Fun.
Impossible to ignore.

And the best part?

🔹 The “price” was downloading the app.

No ads.
No big spend.

👉 Just creative ex*****on.

At the Fort Lauderdale Tech Meetup, Nathan Heber shared what made the difference early on:

🔹 It wasn’t technology. It was customer experience.

No one knew them.
There was no reason to trust them.

👉 But they did something different:

They answered.

While others ignored calls…
they replied to chats at 10PM on a Saturday.

🔹 And that changed everything.

Frustrated customers finally found someone responsive.

That’s how they got their first clients
and started building real traction.

At the Fort Lauderdale Tech Meetup,Nathan Heber shared one of the toughest decisions in his journey:

🔹 Saying no to $500K.

A huge deal.
A massive opportunity.

👉 But the wrong direction.

The project didn’t align with the company’s vision
and would have locked them in for years.

Even after starting…
even after spending money…

🔹 He chose to give it all back.

Because growing in the wrong direction
can cost you everything.

At the Fort Lauderdale Tech Meetup, Nathan Heber shared an important lesson:

🔹 You don’t need to know everything to start.

No technical skills.
No industry experience.

👉 And still, he built it.

He learned fast, adapted…
and made every mistake along the way.

What about a co-founder?

🔹 Not a traditional one.

He built a “co-founder by committee” with mentors, investors, and technical leaders.

But looking back:

👉 He would start with a co-founder next time.

At the Fort Lauderdale Tech Meetup, Nathan Heber shared a clear warning for founders:

🔹 Raising money isn’t always the right move.

Many founders raise too early…
or simply because they can.

👉 And it can backfire.

From down rounds to struggling to justify the next valuation, the risk is real.

The key takeaway?

🔹 Raise when you have leverage.

Because when you desperately need capital…
you’ve already lost negotiating power.

At the Fort Lauderdale Tech Meetup, Nathan Heber shared a key lesson:

🔹 Knowing when to pivot.

What started as a peer-to-peer boat rental turned into a services marketplace after spotting a bigger opportunity.

The twist?
Their MVP didn’t really work.

From the outside: a full platform.
Behind the scenes: emails, calls, and manual ex*****on.

🔹 And it still worked.

Because early on, it’s not about the product.
It’s about proving demand.

Steven Walbroehl, Co-founder and CTO of Halborn, brings a rare combination of deep enterprise cybersecurity expertise and advanced blockchain security knowledge.
As the leader behind one of the top blockchain security firms in the industry, he helps protect enterprise-grade digital assets with world-class, end-to-end security.

In 2022, Halborn raised a $90M Series A, becoming a major reference in the space.

🔐 In this podcast cut, Steven shares the story of when Binance asked his team to review Dogecoin.

What started as a simple audit uncovered a critical vulnerability that could have crashed the entire network, shutting down nodes and opening the door for a possible 51% attack.
A clear example of why real security means thinking like an attacker.

This is episode #28 of our podcast. 🎙️
