I want to tell a story...
This story is my own story. About 15 years ago, I came to this town and fell in love at first sight. It resembled the drawings I used to make in art class when I was little. Clean, peaceful.
The first few years were spent struggling with difficulties. I tried to adapt to the culture. People were not like what I was used to. If you come from somewhere else, it's not easy to fit in and be accepted... I had many fights, and the reason for my fights was the disrespect people showed me and others like me for no reason... Then one day came and I understood. I stopped trying to explain myself and how the rest of the world's culture is. That day, I made a decision... I started my story in Fort Kent, showing that it is possible to make music and treat everyone equally when needed.. And I thought I succeeded in that. For about 10 years, I played music for people of all races, religions, and ages. I never said no or couldn't play to anyone.. Besides my DJing talent, I was good at making every kind of person happy, which earned me the love and respect of many people.. Some even say that among all DJs around here, I am the best and only true DJ. And I have always been proud of that...and tried to live up to it...
Without further ado, let's move on to the conclusion... Approximately 2 years ago, COVID entered our lives and as you know, nightlife and social life were greatly affected for over a year.. Consequently, I distanced myself from stages... Many venues closed down. Many things changed... Now that we couldn't make music anymore.. What saddens me is that even reopened nightlife establishments weren't the same as before.. It seemed like everyone became selfish and started catering only to their local people.. Despite having a significant number of tourists and students in our town, no one was doing anything for them.. Yet, thanks to these students, our university was still functioning and standing...
I believe that the biggest factor that makes this town special is our university... We owe even the financial value of the house we live in to our university in this town.. I don't want to go into too much detail, but the truth is, I think it doesn't take much intelligence to see that we need these students economically..
Unfortunately, many businesses in our town do not make enough effort to give attention and opportunities to students because they cannot spend money like local people do; some of them don't even lift a finger...
While all this was happening and just when I was about to lose all hope, something happened... And an angel moved into our town.. She was of Asian origin, short but with a huge heart, she was Sami, a beauty from another world. She proved that a person can always be positive and spread joy around her.
Sami opened a restaurant in our town to serve people of all ages, races, religions, and professions. She was also a "Yes" person like me. When I met her, my lost hopes came back... Sami's only concern was being loved. Even on days when her restaurant was empty she would stress herself out asking why they didn't love her anymore in this town...
Soon after that upon the insistence of the students in town, Sami decided to organize events for them and of course my name was the first one given.
She called me and asked if I could come and play music for bored people in town. Of course without hesitation, I said yes. And we started organizing events once a month... People were happy; they could dance and release their negative energies... It felt like old times again. The students were happier and more motivated...
A few months later, due to popular demand, we decided to turn the restaurant into a nightclub on weekends... Within two weeks, we created a club that Fort Kent had never seen before with rapid work...
In these 15 years, I always dreamed of opening such a nightclub in Fort Kent; I even tried a few times but couldn't make it happen because I wasn't in the right place at the right time...
I want to say that I will be forever grateful to Sami for giving me and all the young people this opportunity...
Reluctantly, I start this paragraph. I wish my story had ended in the previous paragraph, but unfortunately, as you know, we experienced an unexpected tragedy and lost our queen who did not deserve it... Words fail me... I am at a loss where my feelings freeze, my identity is lost, and all this makes no sense to me...
I feel like I've lost my mother for the second time.. The only thing that keeps me going is Sami's always smiling face, which I remember all the time.. I have made this amazing quality that I learned from Sami a goal for myself.. Hopefully, you can also learn from this quality and remember that life is very short and you can smile enough to all kinds of people around us..
As you know, we have been mourning as Sami's team for the past two weeks. During these two weeks, we fulfilled our final duty to Sami with her family and conducted the funeral ceremony with utmost respect..
Now it is very difficult but just as Sami would want, we are opening Club Sami this weekend to be better, more determined, and more successful..
Of course, we cannot continue where we left off because our source of motivation, our queen, is no longer here but as Club Sami's, I promise to start writing again in order to be more successful in tribute to her and be worthy of her by opening a new page.
Rest in peace Sami and I will always love you...
