Have you ever noticed lambs and goats lying peacefully in the pasture after eating? They may look like they’re resting, but their digestive systems are still hard at work! 🐐🐑🌿

Goats and sheep are ruminants. They quickly graze and swallow their food, storing it in the rumen—the largest section of their four-part stomach. Later, while resting, they bring that food back up, chew it again as “cud,” and swallow it once more.

This extra chewing helps break down tough grasses, leaves, and other plants so microbes in the rumen can turn them into nutrients and energy. That’s why goats and lambs spend so much time relaxing and chewing after grazing.

So when you see them stretched out in the sunshine, slowly chewing, they aren’t being lazy. They’re simply letting their amazing natural digestive system do its job! 💚
