Richie and I took a little break together this week. The trip to the Bahamas to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary also gave us time to reflect on our love and beautiful road that has brought us to this moment. We’ve been true to our vows. Loving and supporting each other through thick and thin. The hard times are only possible with the right person at your side. And the easy times are the pure joy of life! But to be honest, the vast majority of married life is demonstrating small acts of caring. He’s the man that packs my lunch, runs back into the house to grab my phone when I forget it, and reminds me to take Claritin. I know I do small things for him too. Seriously, the man would not be wearing cloths right now… it’s these small things, that add up to the big things and are truly the meat and potatoes of being married.

It still amazes me that the universe places the right people at the right time in our path. Richie is one of those people. I often think of life in terms of before and after. He is what my history friends would call a tipping point. Another is Alexandra Peterson Alex photographed our wedding and then planted the wedding planner seed. She’s been a mentor, a true friend and amazingly talented creative presence in my life ever since.

Thank you, Alex, for taking the time away from your family to meet up with us while on vacation to capture these images for us! What a beautiful adventure we had yesterday. What a beautiful adventure we will continue on! Let’s do this again in another 10!

One of my favorite moments of every wedding day is the few moments a couples gets to spend alone after leaving their ceremony. Keep in mind you have to plan to do this. Put it on the timeline!

Take a moment, or two. It’s some of the only alone time you will get during your wedding day and comes at a VIP moment. Seriously, walk away, go to a private space, go up over the dune or done a block. Then return to your guests after having a moment alone.
