The first fair, held in Rosendale, Wisconsin, began with an address at half past one on the first day, September 29, 1852. Dairy cattle, fine, wool, tools and manufactured items were exhibited at the first fair. Household arts and garden vegetables were on display to be judged. Working oxen and steers were awarded $3 for being the best in the class. The best sample of butter, not less than 50 lbs.

, was awarded $5. The best sample sugar, also not less than 50 lbs., was given a $4 premium. The theme for the fair "Education, Entertainment and Affordable Family Fun" is the creative genius of Mr. Williard Henken, who retired from the Fond du Lac County Agricultural Society in November of 2001. His background as the first Dean of the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac and his love of the fair are certainly reflected in not only the theme, but also in the many years of service he gave to the fair organization. WHAT IS A FAIR FOR? "The purpose of a fair is to educate; to help people learn about life and what is good; to find out what is new and how to improve; to understand about our heritage and agriculture; to find out what is profitable and what is enjoyable; and to learn how to adjust better to change, how to be better people, how to be responsible and better citizens, and how to be more self-sufficient"

What an incredible fair! ❤ We hope you made memories, enjoyed the food, rides, music, shows, and everything that makes the Fond du Lac County Fair so special.
But behind every successful fair is an incredible team of people who work tirelessly behind the scenes—and often long before the gates open and long after they close. From planning and preparation to setup, cleanup, parking, security, entertainment, exhibits, vendors, volunteers, and everything in between, it truly takes a village.
A HUGE thank you to every staff member, volunteer, exhibitor, vendor, sponsor, entertainer, board member, and community member who helped make this year's fair possible. Your countless hours, dedication, and hard work do not go unnoticed. ❤
