Pearls, candlelight, and spring flowers are the themes behind May’s floral design interpretation. Pearlescent features shimmer throughout this carefully curated floral tablescape. Sweet peas, fritillaria, pansies, and foxglove dance and play among cascading mounds of pearls!
Once the candles were lit, the flames cast a warm glow across the table and its flowers. Such a welcoming surprise given the cool tones of the palette! My vision for this month’s color story was to reinterpret pastels by moving away from traditional “spring” hues and toward something cooler and more luminous.
Pearlescent!
Creating mounds of pearls to hold each iridescent taper candle was my favorite personal touch. Pearls were the original inspiration for this tablescape and I wanted them to feel like more than just an accent. They became part of the story. The playfulness behind their shape and nature keeps this design feeling distinctly Lucy Blooms, while the pearls themselves elevate the decor by adding elegance. Because what is more timeless than a pearl.
Another meaningful element was my collection of oyster shells scattered throughout the design. I gathered them at a lobster shack in Wellfleet during my last trip to the Cape, and their milky white finish blends seamlessly into the overall look.
This tablescape is a reminder that the smallest details almost always create the largest impact. The florals are beautiful on their own, and it took a surprising amount of restraint not to add more. Instead, I allowed the pearls, shells, candlelight, and flowers to share the spotlight.
I’d love to know which detail catches your eye first? I hope you’re enjoying these monthly floral design interpretations as much as I am creating them! xo
