✨ One of the most rewarding parts of C.R.O.W.’s 2026 Spring Dance Showcase on May 22 & 23, was the opportunity to connect our students with other outstanding artists from across Oregon.

This year, we were thrilled to welcome All That! Dance Company from Eugene to our stage. Their Senior Dancers’ self-choreographed performance was powerful, polished, poignant, and a wonderful example of the artistry, dedication, and passion that dance can inspire.

Opportunities like these allow C.R.O.W. students to see exceptional choreography firsthand, perform alongside dancers who bring their own unique talents, and gain a broader perspective on the vibrant dance community that exists throughout our state.

To Sarah Beth Byrum and the dancers and families of All That! Dance Company: thank you for sharing your creativity, energy, and artistry with us. We are grateful for your participation and proud to create shared experiences that bring artists together, celebrate excellence, and inspire the next generation of performers.

Read this! Why Boys Belong in Dance:

Every time a male walks into a dance studio or rehearsal, he is doing something brave.

Despite decades of evidence proving the value of the Arts, boys are still often subjected to teasing, stereotypes, and the outdated idea that it is somehow “not meant for them.” In many communities, including small towns like ours, these misconceptions can be especially difficult to overcome.

The truth is that dance develops strength, athleticism, discipline, coordination, confidence, teamwork, creativity, musicality, and perseverance. It requires dedication, courage, and countless hours of hard work. The world’s most successful athletes, from football players to track stars to martial artists, regularly incorporate dance training because of the physical and mental health benefits it provides.

In fact, many pro footballers take Ballet so that they are more agile on the field, including some who even go en pointe. Look it up!

Dance is not an “all female activity.” It is a sport, a discipline, and a powerful means of self-expression. Males have been shaping the world of dance for centuries, from legendary choreographers and performers to Broadway stars, ballet principals, tap dance masters, and contemporary innovators.

What concerns me most is not whether a boy chooses to dance. What concerns me is when a male is made to feel ashamed for pursuing something they love.

Nobody should be bullied for exploring their talents. No child should be told their interests determine their worth. And nobody should have to choose between fitting in and following their passion.

At C.R.O.W., we celebrate boys who dance. We celebrate ALL young people who are willing to work hard, express themselves creatively, and pursue excellence regardless of stereotypes. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover what brings them joy and to do so in an environment that is safe, supportive, and encouraging.

To our boys who dance: Keep dancing!

And to the adults in their lives: Let’s do better. Let’s replace judgment with encouragement, stereotypes with understanding, and ignorance with opportunity.

Every child deserves the freedom to become who they are meant to be.
