Yes, we learned about Science, Tech, Engineering, Art, and Math from awesome girl-bosses during Girls Week, (and wrapped up with 3D flower BINGO!), but more importantly we discussed the importance of being ourselves and embracing our unique imaginations, and building each other up through kindness, encouragement, and support.

Our final Day of STEAM Queens Week was marked by our MATH visitor, Gabbi! Gabbi owns Mathnasium of Flemington. She told told the girls that she actually didn’t always like or feel good at math, until a wonderful teacher made it fun for her and it clicked. Because of that experience, she went on to become a math major in college, a math teacher herself, to a math entrepreneur who helps other kids find the same passion for math that she did. What an impactful turnaround story for my campers this week.

We also did a fun experiment to figure out the measurement of Pi (and yes, I totally learned something new about Pi myself!)

Gabrielle—thank you for being a fellow leader in STEAM for our community’s children and for ALWAYS being a generous and supportive small business neighbor. ♥️

Another artist visitor was my beloved friend Alex of Alex n Crafts!

If you’ve never met Alex, she is the embodiment of sunshine! ☀️ She spoke to the girls about what she loves about art, how she’s made it into a career, and showed off her work—which is bright, colorful, and FUN!

She reminded the girls that art doesn’t have to be what other people think it should be—it should be what WE like and what WE find beautiful. And above all else, she taught them to embrace being themselves…including all the things that make each of us a uniquely lovable weirdo! 💗

In honor of Alex, the girls 3D printed their own jewelry, choosing colors and designs that they loved and turning them into something uniquely their own.

On Art Day of STEAM Queens Week, we had a very special guest—my daughter, Juliet. 💗🎨

Juliet is a tattoo apprentice and shared some of her artwork with the girls and blew their minds her “practice cat.” Of course, she even gave each of the girls a temporary tattoo!

But my favorite part was hearing her talk about how art has always been her safe place…a way to express herself, be herself, and find her peace.

There are so many different kinds of artists and so many different ways to create. Hopefully my girls learned that art doesn’t have to look a certain way to be meaningful or beautiful. 💕

On Engineering Day of STEAM Queens Week, I took the girls for a tour of Benchmark Fine Woodworking. By pure chance, when we walked into the workshop, owner Jon was working on a project using… my father’s spring-loaded clamp invention!

Jon even showed them how the traditional clamp worked—and how much easier Papa 3D’s invention made it to use.

What a great personal moment to teach the girls the importance of invention and innovation in the world of engineering!

And, of course, we took this photo for me to send to Papa!

Last week was our STEAM Queens Girls Only Camp, where we welcomed various women working the STEAM fields. On Monday, we met teacher Mrs. Breuer, who taught us that science exists in almost every facet of our lives. Together, we experimented with dyeing flowers different colors.

Did you know that science and engineering work-fields are only 28% women?? That’s why programs like this are so important. Hopefully we change those numbers someday!
