Because apparently we need to remind everybody what happens when Fitchburg gets a whole bunch of artists, families, neighbors, kids, chalk, creativity, and a PARK together. 😂

The 4th Annual Lowe Park Chalk Art Festival is coming Saturday, September 12, 2026 to Lowe Park in Fitchburg!

Come see professional artists create right on the pavement. Come make some art yourself. Bring the kids. Bring your friends. Wander around. Take pictures. Meet people. Get inspired. And yes—come argue with somebody about which chalk square is your favorite. 😂🎨

🎨 MEET THE TEAM: SARAH GAGNE WHEELER 🎨

Meet Sarah Gagne Wheeler, one of the dedicated Volunteer Coordinators helping make the 4th Annual Lowe Park Chalk Art Festival a success!

Sarah brings creativity, compassion, and a passion for community to everything she does. As a lifelong advocate for the arts and creative expression, she believes that art has the power to inspire connection, kindness, and belonging.

For this year’s festival, Sarah is helping recruit, organize, and support the volunteers who make the event possible. From welcoming artists and visitors to assisting with festival activities throughout the day, she plays an important role in creating a positive experience for everyone involved.

Outside of the festival, Sarah is a creative writer and poet who enjoys sharing her work with audiences near and far. Her love of storytelling and the arts reflects her belief that creativity helps build stronger, more connected communities.

Sarah is excited to help bring another year of color, creativity, and community to Lowe Park—and she can’t wait to welcome everyone on festival day!

🎨 MEET THE TEAM: TAMARA ROBERTSON-DARCY 🎨

Meet Tamara Robertson-Darcy, our Volunteer Coordinator & Pop-Up Liaison for the 4th Annual Lowe Park Chalk Art Festival!

Tamara is a passionate community leader, artist, and advocate dedicated to making the arts accessible to people of all abilities. Through her leadership of Brush Strokes and Beyond, she creates opportunities for adults with different abilities to express themselves, build confidence, and connect with their community through art.

For this year’s festival, Tamara is leading volunteer coordination and community outreach while helping organize pop-up events that introduce new audiences to the Lowe Park Chalk Art Festival. She has also been instrumental in building partnerships with schools, businesses, elder services, and community organizations to expand participation and make the festival more inclusive.

In addition to her work with Brush Strokes and Beyond, Tamara serves on the Board of the Fitchburg Cultural Alliance, where she continues to champion collaboration, accessibility, and community engagement through the arts.

Tamara believes that art is a universal language—one that brings people together, fosters belonging, and creates opportunities for everyone to participate.

Tamara R. Darcy recently popped up at McKay High School with McKay Transitions students through BrushStrokes and Beyond, an art-focused, community-based day program in Fitchburg serving adults with different abilities.

🎨 MEET THE TEAM: KIMRÂH MINUTY 🎨

Behind every successful community event is a team working to bring people together—and we’re excited to introduce Kimrâh Minuty, the Marketing & Communications Lead for the Lowe Park Chalk Art Festival!

Kimrâh helps connect artists, sponsors, volunteers, and the community through storytelling, digital outreach, and strategic planning.

She is a disabled artist and advocate who oversees the festival’s social media, public communications, promotional campaigns, digital tools, project coordination, and grant compliance to help ensure the festival reaches and engages the community before, during, and after the event.

Kimrâh believes public art creates opportunities for connection, belonging, and community pride, making creativity accessible to everyone.

Her goal is to help more people discover the festival, support local artists, strengthen community partnerships, and celebrate the incredible creativity that makes Fitchburg such a vibrant place to live and visit.

A Reminder: This Is a Family-Friendly Community Space 🎨❤️

We want to take a moment to address some of the comments we have received regarding our use of AI-assisted tools in promoting the Lowe Park Chalk Art Festival.

People are absolutely entitled to have concerns, criticisms, and conversations about artificial intelligence. There are important conversations happening about AI, artists, labor, environmental impact, ethics, and the future of creative work.

What we will not allow is abusive behavior toward the people running this page.

Cursing at people, insulting them, attacking volunteers, or using ableist language is not advocacy. It does not solve the problems associated with AI, and it does not make our community stronger.

The Lowe Park Chalk Art Festival is a small, underfunded, community-based arts festival. It takes an enormous amount of labor to bring this event to Fitchburg each year. We would love to have the funding to hire professional artists, graphic designers, social media managers, photographers, videographers, and communications staff. We do not have that funding.

This page is currently being managed by a disabled artist who is donating her skills and capacity to help make this festival possible. AI-assisted tools are among the accessibility and capacity tools being used to accomplish work that would otherwise require additional staff and resources we simply do not have.

And we want to be very clear about something:

Using abusive language toward a disabled artist because you object to the technology she uses to make her work accessible is not a defense of artists.

Our festival exists to support artists, including paid professional artists, while creating an affordable, welcoming arts experience for children, families, and our broader community.

You are welcome to disagree with us.
You are welcome to have thoughtful conversations about AI.
You are welcome to advocate for artists and ethical technology.

You are not welcome to abuse people here.

This is a family-friendly festival, and our social media spaces are an extension of that environment. Comments containing profanity directed at others, personal attacks, harassment, ableist language, or other abusive behavior will be removed.

We can disagree and still speak to one another with basic dignity.

We are here to make art, support artists, bring people together, and build something positive for our community.

🎨 MEET THE TEAM: SHARA OSGOOD 🎨

Every great community event begins with a vision—and for the Lowe Park Chalk Art Festival, that vision started with Shara Osgood.

Shara is the Founder and Event Coordinator of the Lowe Park Chalk Art Festival and a professional artist whose work is deeply rooted in building community through public art. What began as an idea has grown into an annual celebration that brings together professional artists, families, youth, volunteers, local organizations, and community partners to transform Lowe Park into a vibrant outdoor gallery.

Beyond the festival, Shara has helped shape Fitchburg’s public art landscape by leading and contributing to numerous community mural projects, including the Power of Art Mural, Reaching Towards Change Mural, and the Putnam Parking Garage Mural.

She is also actively involved with the Fitchburg Cultural Council, Fitchburg Cultural Alliance (where she serves as an Artist-in-Residence at Main Street Studios), the Massachusetts Women’s Caucus for Art, and the Art Stewards program, while also serving as a Community Organizing, Fundraising, and Civic Ambassador Steward.

Shara is a graduate of the Fitchburg State University Resident Leadership Institute and a member of the Community Leadership Institute’s Charlotte 6 Cohort.

Her passion for community, collaboration, and creativity continues to inspire the vision behind the Lowe Park Chalk Art Festival each year.
