CARES Sunday Update
February 8, 2026
This week began with a little Groundhog Day tradition. On Monday morning, Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter. While we may have more chilly days ahead, the warmth of our volunteers and friends continue to remind us that brighter days are always coming.
Monday night, the Farmington City Council approved our 2026 Family Fun Days and Duck Race event application. Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 4, and Wednesday, August 5, as we are planning fun activities for both days. You can start buying your duck tickets starting this coming spring.
We are grateful to Ryan and Dylan Mitchell of Mitchell Logic for the incredible updates to our CARES website and for producing so many powerful videos for us. Their work beautifully tells the story of our Campus of Hope and the people we serve. You can see the “Why Not?” Video at the Farmington Civic. If you have not visited our website recently, take a moment to explore and see what is new. www.caresfh.org
On Tuesday, I had the privilege of speaking with a group of young Boy Scouts about caring for others and how giving your time and energy can change someone’s day. Watching young people connect with the idea of service is always inspiring and gives great hope for the future.
Wednesday began early with our BNI meeting, followed by time with my monthly prayer group where we lifted up our communities and the families we serve. Later that day, we received a strong wave of food donations. Our volunteers quickly jumped into action, organizing everything so it could go out to our guests as soon as possible.
Thursday was one of those days that reminded us how deeply generosity runs in our communities. Students from Our Lady of Sorrows School collected cans of soup throughout the last couple of weeks. The results of their SOUPer Bowl drive was over 1000 pounds of cans of soup to support our pantry. Their enthusiasm showed that generosity has no age limit. Giving is a gift that blesses both the giver and the receiver. Have fun watching the Super Bowl and thank you everyone for CARING.
That same afternoon, we welcomed a large delivery through our partnership with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We were blessed to receive a generous donation of nonperishable food.
Our CARES pantry distributes upwards of 50,000 pounds of food each month. Partnerships like the ones shared in this update make a tremendous difference. Thank You for supporting our hungry friends.
Thursday also brought exciting operational news. Kim, our Director of Food Operations, finalized arrangements with a new food supplier. Sometime next week our new partner will make their first delivery to CARES. Additional frozen and nonperishable products will be arriving to us at no cost. Donations like this are strengthening our ability to meet growing needs we are seeing.
We extend a very heartfelt thanks to the Comerica Bank Team members who volunteered this week. They sorted, labeled, and assisted in our checkout area, helping us keep everything running smoothly. Their time and energy have had a real impact. Good luck as you all go forward as part of Fifth Third Bank. We hope our great partnership continues.
Friday closed the week on a forward-looking note as our event leadership team met to plan the upcoming Hunger to Hope Dinner on May 7, 2026 at the Farmington Hills Manor.
This event is an important opportunity to gather, as communities that CARE together we can work to strengthen our mission. This will help to ensure no neighbor in our service area goes hungry. Please mark your calendar and look for more details on how you can participate and support this special evening.
As always, thank you for being part of CARES. Your generosity, time, and encouragement inspires everything we do. Together, we continue building hope, one week at a time.
Every act of kindness shared this week is a reminder that CARING communities can change lives. Together, we are turning Compassion into Hope. Thanks for walking this journey with us.
