Returned from a week away in the Canadian woods to provide music for a memorial service for a woman who was a board member of the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings.

Steve busted out the steel string to sing and play a tune by Tom Petty with Abha for our Flower Communion service, our last working Sunday as CoDirs of Music Ministry for the 2023/24 church year.
We take great pride in creating a music program that, through diversity of genre finds music that’s as-close-to-perfect fit with the message of the given Sunday, and enlivening the spirit among those souls both in the sanctuary and watching from a screen over the internet.
Having a safe space where one with talent can express themselves, and encouraging congregants to share their talents with others through music is something we strive for at BUC.
There is no such thing as perfection, but aiming for it each week and feeling bolstered in the process through the love we have received over the combined 36 years, makes the crazy job of church musician worthwhile.

I get asked by my wife to play a musical once a year. I used to whine about it because I’m not a fan of the genre overall. But..I learn so much each time, and it makes me think so differently. PLUS my wife and I get to work together.
