What a wonderful way to start our morning at The Mischievous Monkeys! 🐒❤️

We had the pleasure of welcoming two lovely ladies visiting from Milwaukee, Wisconsin!

They were in the area after attending a craft workshop at the 4-H grounds of Allerton Park, an event they look forward to attending every year.

Lucky for us, they discovered The Mischievous Monkeys during their visit, and what a delight they were! They enjoyed exploring our store so much that they've decided to make us part of their annual tradition! How wonderful is that?!

And, of course, Marcus wasn't about to let them leave without getting in on the fun and posing for a photo! 🐵📸

We absolutely LOVE meeting visitors from near and far, hearing their stories, and discovering what brings them to our little corner of Illinois. It's even more special when a first-time visit turns into a yearly tradition!

Thank you, ladies, for stopping in! We look forward to welcoming you back next year!

What a wonderful day of visitors at The Mischievous Monkeys! 🐒❤️

We had the pleasure of welcoming a lovely couple from Colorado who were visiting another couple who had recently moved to one of our local subdivisions. The four were enjoying a siblings tour, with their travels taking them all the way to New England!

Of course, you know me! I love a good conversation, especially when it involves a little local history!

During our visit, I asked the couple who had recently moved to Farmer City if they knew why there was a road named George Rock Road near where they live. They had no idea, so naturally, I had to fill them in on a little piece of our local history!

We also learned that the couple now living here had previously lived in Door County, Wisconsin, and had lived in St. Charles, IL, which gave us even more to talk about.

All four were absolutely delightful, and we thoroughly enjoyed the conversation and opportunity to get acquainted.

One of the greatest pleasures of owning The Mischievous Monkeys is meeting wonderful people from all over the country. You just never know who will walk through our doors, where they're from, or what interesting stories they'll have to share.

And naturally, no visit is complete without a photo with Marcus the Monkey! 🐒

LOOK AT ALL THE GREAT THINGS HAPPENING AT THE MISCHIEVOUS MONKEYS & AROUND FARMER CITY! ❤️

Robert has been so busy lately with the Farmer City Merchants’ Organization and the incredible response to the proposed Farmer City Remembrance Garden that we’ve slacked a little on showing you all the NEW merchandise arriving at The Mischievous Monkeys! 😂

And believe us... the boxes have NOT stopped coming!

We have gorgeous new pillows, Buddy the Elf T-shirts in sizes M–3X, some seriously cool retro spinning ashtrays, bubbling water candles, beautiful Turkish mosaic lamps, and even glow-in-the-dark Mystery Dumplings! And, of course, the Desk Geese and all their crazy accessories continue to fly out the door. Another shipment is already headed our way for next week!

Meanwhile, something pretty amazing has been happening outside the store, too.

We are absolutely thrilled with the decision to start the Farmer City Merchants’ Organization two years ago. From Robert relandscaping part of Heartland Bank—with even bigger plans still to come—to the proposed Farmer City Remembrance Garden, we are seeing what can happen when people get excited about making their community even better.

And this Garden has certainly struck a chord. ❤️

We are NOT accepting payments yet. Nothing will be ordered and no money will change hands until we receive the official green light from the City.

But look at the interest ALREADY:
3 BENCHES SOLD — with possibly 3 MORE!
3 of only 4 TREES already spoken for!
41 BRICKS!

And we haven't even officially started marketing the project yet!
The Remembrance Garden has even made it onto local television stations, helping spread the word about what we're hoping to create right here in Farmer City.

And here's something we really want everyone to understand: You do NOT have to live in Farmer City to participate or be from here.

Robert himself has his name permanently engraved on a brick at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia. That's part of what makes these projects so special. A brick, tree or bench can connect someone to a place and a memory for generations.

Our Garden isn't only about remembering those we've lost, either. It is also about celebrating people, families, weddings, anniversaries, businesses, milestones and moments worth remembering forever.

🌳❤️ TODAY IS THE DAY! ❤️🌳

After nearly three months of research, planning, designing, measuring, pricing, and putting all the pieces together, tonight I will present the Farmer City Remembrance Garden proposal to the Farmer City City Council.

📅 TONIGHT — Monday, October 5
⏰ 6:00 PM
📍 Farmer City City Hall

My hope is simple: to receive the green light from the City so we can move forward and begin turning this vision into reality.

If you believe Farmer City needs a place like this, your support tonight can make a difference.

Community members are welcome to attend the City Council meeting, and those who feel strongly about the project can speak about why you believe the Farmer City Remembrance Garden is important to our community and why you would like to see it move forward.

You don't need a prepared speech. Simply sharing why you feel this project would be meaningful to Farmer City can say a great deal.

The vision is for much more than a memorial garden. It is a place for our entire community—a place to gather, reflect, remember, celebrate, sit with a friend, take photographs, honor someone special, and enjoy a beautiful green space in the heart of Farmer City.

We already have people willing to financially support the project, and formal fundraising has intentionally been waiting for City approval.

Now we need the opportunity to move forward.

🌳 IT'S OFFICIAL — THE FARMER CITY REMEMBRANCE GARDEN PROPOSAL HAS BEEN SUBMITTED! 🌳

After nearly three months of research, planning, measuring, designing, pricing, gathering vendor information, and working through the details, the complete proposal for the Farmer City Remembrance Garden was officially delivered to the City of Farmer City TODAY!

Now comes the important part.

📅 MONDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2026
⏰ 6:00 PM
📍 Farmer City City Hall

The proposal will be presented to the Farmer City City Council, and we would LOVE to see the community there for support!

The vision is to transform an underused downtown space into a beautiful landscaped garden—a place where people can gather, reflect, remember, celebrate, take photographs, enjoy community events, or simply sit for a while.

The proposed garden includes:

🌳 Four ornamental trees
🪑 Six sponsored memorial/commemorative benches
🧱 A personalized brick walkway
🌺 Extensive landscaping and seasonal color
✨ Landscape, tree and overhead lighting
🌿 Trellises and vertical greenery
💧 Permanent water access
🏛️ A future Farmer City Legacy Wall
❤️ Opportunities for families, businesses and organizations to become part of the garden

And community support has already started before formal fundraising has even begun!

One complete $1,800 bench sponsorship is already committed, two ornamental trees are spoken for, personalized bricks have already been spoken for, and there has been additional interest in sponsoring benches.

Formal sponsorship letters and the broader fundraising campaign have intentionally been held until the project receives City approval.

The personalized brick program is planned to be one of the major fundraising components of the project, allowing people to permanently recognize loved ones, families, businesses, organizations, milestones, celebrations and connections to Farmer City.

This has never been envisioned as simply a “memorial garden.”

It is meant to become a community garden for ALL of Farmer City—a beautiful downtown space that can continue growing and becoming part of our community for generations.

The plans are done.
The research is done.
The proposal has been submitted.
