Construction began on The Stamey Store in 1925 in what was an art-deco style architecture reminiscent of grand buildings in big cities at the time. In 1927, the doors swung open with a full line of goods from New York, Baltimore, and all over the country.

The grand opening, which included a jazz orchestra, was the talk of the town, and more than 1,000 people from all walks of life attended. It was quickly nicknamed, "the Big Store," by locals, and was the center of Upper Cleveland County until its doors closed in 1995.
