Thanks to Hagen History Center for highlighting the Swan family legacy 🏛️ Proud to carry that history forward here at The Swan Tavern. 🍻

From the archives 🖼️: This large portrait of Col. Andrew Francis Swan often catches the eye of our archival volunteers. Col. Swan was born appropriately at Swanville (Fairview) in 1832. He served in the Sixth Regiment of the US Calvary during the Civil War—rising to Lieutenant Colonel by the war’s end. The Swans came to Erie County from Dauphin County. Andrew’s father, John, was a War of 1812 veteran and his grandfather, Richard, was a Revolutionary War veteran. Shoutout to our friends at The Schoolhouse, home of the Swan Tavern. The History Center presented a preservation award 🌟 to the Root family for their outstanding restoration of the incredible building. 🏛️👏👏
According to Goerie.com: "In 1797, Captain Richard Swan, a Revolutionary War veteran, settled with his family near Walnut Creek. He held a prominent position in the community. His log home served as the local school during the day and as a tavern at night.
The original site of Swan's log home is across the creek from the current structure -- Schoolhouse No. 3, built in 1897 -- which served students in grades one through eight for 50 years."
