Begonias are humidity lovers so make sure youβve got yours set up!
Care Tips for Begonia Ferox:
Light:
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Humidity:
Begonia ferox thrives in high humidity, making it well-suited for terrariums or humid environments.
Watering:
Keep the soil consistently moist, but not soggy. Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out between waterings.
Soil:
Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a chunky mix or a mix formulated for aroids.
Temperature:
Maintain a warm environment, ideally around 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit).
Fertilizing:
Fertilize during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce or stop fertilizing during the winter months.
Repotting:
Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound.
Cleaning:
Use a soft brush or makeup brush to gently remove dust from the leaves.
Pests:
Monitor for common houseplant pests like aphids and mealybugs, especially if grown in a terrarium.
Additional Notes:
Begonia ferox can be propagated from leaf cuttings.
Itβs a relatively slow-growing plant, especially when young.
Be mindful that this plant is toxic to pets and small humans.
When shipping, expect some level of dieback as the plant adjusts to its new environment.
