It's been a very sad couple of days in Marion County.

Butch was the captain of the team who brought Palatine Park from a dream to a reality. There are numerous other people who did lots of heavy lifting but Butch came to office with a very simple idea to develop our riverfront and that's exactly what we did. As they say, the rest is history.

Butch's dedication and public service will be greatly missed in our community. Marion County is absolutely, 1000% a better place because of Butch Tennant. There are few people who had a bigger heart and did more for our community than Butch, especially for our youth.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this difficult time. Rest up big fella, your work here is finally complete (except for a few things you set in motion before you left and we'll take it from here). πŸ™β€οΈ

Burley D. β€œButch” Tennant, Jr., 81, of Fairmont, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025 at his residence with his wife by his side. He was born July 15, 1943 in Fairmont, a son of the late Burley D. and Beatrice L. Shipp Tennant. He is survived by his loving wife, of 34 years, Jacqueline Klingens...

PALATINE UPDATE 3/7/25

It's almost time to start prepping the park for the season. We appreciate your patience with the mess from the birds. They do that for a short period of time every year.

1. We were trying to wait so we didn't clean it up and have it happen again and the weather wasn't great (but then it was and will be again next week) 2. The water isn't on down there bc with the breeze off the river, temps can be significantly lower and freeze the pipes which would be a disaster to have to dig those up and replace them.

That being said, we hope to get a crew down there early next week when it warms up a bit to clean up the sticks, branches and the more unpleasant mess left by the birds.

Also a heads up, the Splash Park never opens until after the Three Rivers Festival. So we're still a few months out for that. That's also when our concert series starts. The countdown is ticking away - 77 days to be exact. β³οΈπŸ™Œ

We'll also be waiting closer to mid-May to open the bathrooms which is the same every year. We know that people use the park before then but we don't have the resources (or funds) to keep them open, secure, maintained and cleaned for longer than our season which is basically Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Our summer programs came out great, are in the process of being prepped for printing and should be popping up early next month.

We've had a lot of vendors reaching out. We have a meeting regarding the new regulations for vendors this month. We'll start booking those once we figure all of that out. Please keep in mind that we look for maximum variety for the handful of spaces we have. There's a possibility that we may have even less spaces this year due to more strict regulations so please bear with us with this. Food trucks weren't super popular back in the 2010's when we designed the park and frankly, we didn't do the best in that area but it is what it is and has worked well enough over the past 10 years.

In summary, we're looking forward to this summer in a BIG way. It's getting closer. We'll see you all very soon! 😁⏳️🎟

Did we mention that The Four Horsemen - A Celebration of Metallica is playing a free show at Palatine Park on Saturday, June 14?

This day in Metallica History .... today marks 39 years since Metallica released Master of Puppets, can't believe it is going to be celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2026.

The album contained 8 masterpieces and was the final album that Cliff Burton played on before his untimely death later that year. The album is certified 6x Platinum.

Battery, Master of Puppets, The Thing That Should Not Be, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Disposable Heroes, L***r Messiah, Orion and Damage, Inc.
