Most beginner Mahjong players aren’t losing because they don’t know the rules.
They’re losing because of these 3 common mistakes:
❌ Choosing a hand too early
❌ Passing valuable tiles during the Charleston
❌ Exposing before their hand is ready
The strongest American Mahjong players stay flexible, protect their power tiles, and let the tiles guide their decisions.
Remember:
💡 Don’t choose a hand. Choose a section.
💡 Flowers, Dragons, and Multiples are power tiles.
💡 Wait until you have 8–9 tiles that fit your line before exposing. If your hand requires singles or pairs you don’t yet have, make sure the exposure works for a Joker friendly backup hand as well.
Master these three concepts and your game will improve dramatically.
