We appreciate all of your support regarding the postponement of the Downtown Jingle 5K following the tragic incident at Brown University on Saturday. Tonight, we are sharing an update on the status of the race.

Given the status of the investigation, we are unable to confirm a new race date. However, working with our partners at the City of Providence, we can confirm that the race will *not* be this weekend, December 20th or 21st.

We will continue to stay in contact with the City as they dedicate their focus and all of their resources to finding the suspect and will confirm a new race date as soon as we can.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding as we navigate this fluid and unpredictable situation. We will continue to share updates via email and our social channels.

We look forward to coming together as a running community in Providence at the Downtown Jingle 5K as soon as it is safe to do so.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic situation that is happening at Brown University.

The safety of our participants and staff is always our top priority. Out of an abundance of caution and respect to the victims, their families, and first responders involved, we will postpone the Downtown Jingle 5K.

We plan to work with the city to secure approval for next Sunday, December 21st. We will confirm the new race date and time as soon as possible.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these unimaginable circumstances.

We are actively monitoring the tragic situation currently happening at Brown University. We are in close contact with Providence Police and will share an update regarding tomorrow morning’s Downtown Jingle 5K via email and our social channels at 9pm tonight.

Who is ready for a fun one tomorrow?! ☃️ We’ve had a few questions about the forecast - this race is ON! 🙌

If you are finishing the Run Rhody Grand Slam tomorrow, your race number will be in the blue design seen here, indicating to our team that you will pick up your Finisher’s Medal at the finish line!

You will also collect your beanie hat at Packet Pickup, which will be helpful to keep warm during the race.

Online registration will remain open at RunRhody.com until 8pm. We will also accept walk up registrations.

One of the best parts about the Run Rhody Grand Slam 5K series is that we start and end on the same course, making it easy to track progress throughout the series.

We can’t wait to see you all this weekend to close out the Grand Slam as well as our 2025 race calendar!

If you’ve been dreaming of a white Downtown Jingle 5K, you may just get your wish! ☃️ Light flurries with a mix of good vibes and holiday spirit are in the forecast for this Sunday’s race!

As a reminder, the start line is just outside , so runners are welcome to stay warm inside the mall until just before the race starts. There is a large area above CVS with a staircase that leads right down to Memorial Blvd and the start line!

Participants also have access to Providence Place’s indoor bathrooms before the race! We will have some portable restrooms at the start/finish line as well.

🏁 The 2025 Run Rhody Grand Slam concludes this Sunday at the Downtown Jingle 5K! 🏁

For those completing the series this weekend, please note:

🏃 You will have a “Grand Slam” race number design

🎁 You will receive your Run Rhody beanie hat at Packet Pickup with your number and t-shirt

🏅 After you cross the finish line, swing by the tent to pick up your Series Finisher’s Medal!

If you aren’t completing the series this weekend and are feeling some FOMO, not to worry! Our next 5K series is coming up in March with the 2026 Tour de Patrick.

This fun 5K series celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with three races in three cities in Rhode Island throughout the month of March. Participants can sign up for one, two or all three races! Participants who run all three will receive a Finisher’s Medal upon completion at the Shamrock Shuffle 5K on March 29th.
