I’m Brian Murphy, and I’m running for the EVSC School Board At-Large this November.
As an honorably discharged Marine, local home builder, and former classroom teacher, I’ve spent my life learning how to build. I’ve taught craft skills right here with Youth Build Evansville and helped develop a dedicated 4-year Construction Technology pathway for Dallas ISD.
Through my time in the classroom and my active involvement in Evansville’s amazing recovery community, I’ve seen firsthand what happens when people get real support instead of empty
promises.
I’m asking for your vote this November because our EVSC School System is facing challenges that require substantive change, not just talking points.
The ILEARN Crisis: The data tells us our kids are falling behind in reading and math. This is a crisis that deserves a real plan, and a great place to start would be listening to what our teachers are asking for.
Classroom Discipline: From K-12, teachers are tired of discipline issues that go unaddressed. They are lacking the backing they need to conduct class safely and effectively.
Classroom Support: Our educators need more hands-on assistance. Developing and supporting a robust teacher’s aide program will be a top priority of mine.
Career & Technical Education: Expanding upon the wonderful opportunities that exist at the Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center is a high priority. Not every student is going to college right after high school and a robust 4 year course of study that leads to a high demand high wage job is the opportunity that so many of our students need.
The Funding Squeeze: Senate Enrolled Act 1 is going to squeeze funding and do not be surprised if the School Corporation wants to conduct a referendum to increase revenue. Cutting programs and services is not the answer.
Through my time helping the Evansville North Green Brigade, I have learned first hand how investing in our students with time, support, and resources will impact them in so many positive ways. I am ready to do the work required to improve our public schools for the students, teachers, parents, and our community. I would be honored to have your vote this November.
