Mental Health Check Thursday...

Here is something I have seen my wife, my Adult daughters and sisters do and I have started doing with my granddaughters.

Sit down with a coloring book and color. I know its different but I have witnessed the calming effect it creates. I wish I was as talented an artist as most of my friends. I love to create but I am better with spread sheets and marketing ideas than just drawing a masterpiece of art. However, I feel just as artful coloring (and even staying in the lines) and helping bring a drawing to life.

I truly don't think it is just locked into coloring. I think its taking time to just allow yourself to be creative. Creative in a relaxing way. Coloring is generally quick and inexpensive but whatever it is for you, take time out at least once a week to, paint, draw, doodle, paint pottery and ceramics, what it is for you to do something simple creative and relaxing. It is found that giving your brain that concentration can help wash out all the thoughts clouding your mind all at once during the day. This is not proven but I would bet doing such before bed may even help you relax and sleep better.

Overall Point... take time to let your five year old you take time to be creative again!

Morbid Wicked Wednesday Facts....

(WTF Edition)

In the 1800s, bright green wallpaper was extremely fashionable. Unfortunately, some of those gorgeous green pigments were made with arsenic.

Because nothing says “tasteful parlor” like slow decorative murder.

People began connecting certain wallpapers to illness, especially in damp rooms where dust and fumes could become a problem. So in 1874, Michigan physician and chemist Dr. Robert Clark Kedzie decided to warn the public.

A normal person might write a pamphlet.

Kedzie created a book called Shadows from the Walls of Death and filled it with actual samples of arsenic-laced wallpaper.

Yes. Actual poison wallpaper.

He sent copies to public libraries so people could compare the dangerous patterns to the ones in their own homes.

Which is helpful.

And also insane.

Most copies were later destroyed because librarians, being inconveniently attached to keeping patrons alive, realized the public health warning was itself a public health hazard.

So let’s review:

Victorian homes had poison wallpaper.
A doctor made a poison book to warn people.
Libraries had to destroy the poison book because it was too poisonous.

History really does have the pacing of a haunted clown show.
