🕯️🏳️🌈❤️ Today and always, we remember the victims, survivors, families, and the entire Pulse community.
Today marks 10 years since the tragic shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. On June 12, 2016, 49 innocent lives were taken and 53 others were injured in what remains one of the deadliest acts of violence against the LGBTQ+ community in United States history. Pulse was more than a nightclub. It was a sanctuary. A place where people could laugh, dance, love, and simply be themselves without fear.
Ten years later, we still carry the names, stories, and memories of those we lost. We remember the families whose lives were forever changed. We remember the survivors who continue to heal. And we remember a community that refused to be broken by hate.
The Pulse tragedy became a defining moment for LGBTQ+ people across the country. In the face of unimaginable grief, our community showed extraordinary resilience. We mourned together. We stood together. We fought for one another. And we continued building spaces where everyone can feel safe, seen, and celebrated.
As we gather throughout Pride Month, we do so with both joy and remembrance. Pride was born from courage, strengthened through adversity, and sustained by generations of people who refused to disappear. The best way we can honor those lost at Pulse is to continue creating a world where every LGBTQ+ person can live openly, authentically, and without fear. This year, to hold space for all those we’ve lost, to carry their love with us, and to honor our loved ones, we saved a seat just for them during our Pride Festival and Parade. 🌈
To the 49 souls we lost: you are not forgotten. Your lives mattered. Your love mattered. Your legacy lives on in every Pride celebration, every act of advocacy, and every person who finds the courage to be themselves.
Today, we invite our community to take a moment of reflection. Light a candle. Say their names. Share their stories. Hold your loved ones a little closer.
