A clown's face is a clown's brand. The best way to protect that brand is to paint it on an egg and file paperwork with a government registry.

Clowns spend years developing unique makeup designs that audiences recognize instantly. Another clown copying those designs would confuse fans and steal business. Traditional copyright law does not clearly protect face paint as an artistic work. Clowns found a creative legal solution using eggs.

The clown paints a perfect version of their face onto a real eggshell. They photograph the egg and submit the image to a specialized clown registry. The egg serves as a fixed, tangible medium for copyright purposes. Other clowns who consult the registry can see which faces are already claimed.

Registries operate in both Europe and the United States. Clowns who fail to register their egg face risk having their design copied legally. New clowns are taught to register their face before performing in public for the first time.

The Twisted Toybox had an absolute blast yesterday showing up & out for Lake County Pride💜🖤💚

Facepainting and balloon animals were a huge hit and we can’t wait to be invited back!

One of my favorite parts of living and working in this community is getting to support events that bring people together. 🌈
