🎶 Legacy Live: Songwriter Sunday
Roger Miller — Oklahoma Roots, Wit & Heart

Some songs make you smile before the first verse is over. Roger Miller had a gift for writing those—and songs that could stop you in your tracks.

Raised in Erick, Oklahoma, Miller brought sharp wit, playful rhythms, and everyday storytelling to country music. His songs could be funny, tender, or a little mischievous, but they always sounded like Roger.

🎵 THE SONGS WE LOVE
“King of the Road” — a traveling character brought to life with unforgettable style.
“Dang Me” — quick wit and a rhythm you recognize right away.
“Husbands and Wives” — a thoughtful look at love, pride, and relationships.

🎭 FROM OKLAHOMA TO BROADWAY
His songwriting reached far beyond country radio. Miller earned a Tony Award for the music and lyrics to Big River, the Broadway musical inspired by Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

That’s a musical legacy worth celebrating: humor, heart, and the imagination to turn a story into a song.

Legacy Live: Women of Oklahoma Wednesday

Shining the spotlight on a true living legend, Oklahoma’s very own “Queen of Country”—the one and only Reba McEntire!

Long before she was a household name with over 35 number-one singles, multi-platinum albums, and her own hit television show, Reba was just a kid growing up on a 7,000-acre family ranch in Chockie, Oklahoma.

Her incredible journey to stardom started right here in the Sooner State: She grew up traveling the rodeo circuit with her family and competing as a barrel racer. Her big break came in 1974 right down the road in Oklahoma City, when she was hired to sing the National Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo. Red Steagall heard her perform, and the rest is music history!

From the rodeo arena to Broadway, Hollywood, and the Grand Ole Opry, Reba has spent decades breaking barriers for female artists while always keeping her proud Oklahoma roots close to her heart.

What is your favorite Reba song or performance?

Legacy Live: Songwriter Sunday
Spotlight on JIMMY WEBB

Born in Elk City and raised in Laverne, Webb grew up playing piano and organ in church. His music would reach far beyond Oklahoma—from the soaring “Up, Up and Away” to “MacArthur Park” and the storytelling of “Highwayman.” That’s the magic of a great songwriter: seeing something ordinary and helping the rest of us feel something extraordinary.

An Oklahoma highway. A lone worker on a telephone pole. The beginning of a song people would never forget. While driving through rural Oklahoma, Jimmy Webb noticed a lineman working high above the road and wondered about his life—who he loved, what he was thinking, and the loneliness of working out there. That image became “Wichita Lineman,” made unforgettable by Glen Campbell. Here’s the surprising part: Webb thought the song still needed a third verse. Campbell recorded it anyway, filling that space with the haunting instrumental solo we know today!

Watch Glen Campbell’s jaw dropping 2008 Later…with Jools Holland performance of Jimmy Webb’s “Wichita Lineman” below in the comments section:
