I had the honor of designing two concept tables for the New York Botanical Garden Orchid Gala at The Plaza Hotel, inspired by Mr. Flower Fantastic’s debut exhibit, Concrete Jungle.
This year was especially meaningful — one of the installations incorporated original graffiti artwork created by my son, Haven Ferrer, whose interpretation of New York’s grit and rhythm brought an authentic urban voice to the design.
Both tables explored the tension between structure and softness — steel and reflection against living florals. Cascading white phalaenopsis orchids were woven throughout, grounding each concept in elegance while allowing nature to interrupt the architecture.
One table reflected stillness.
The other pulsed with energy.
Together, they became a study of New York — where art, family, architecture, and nature intersect.
🌿 Nature Between the Lines
(Inspired by Central Park)
A monochromatic green landscape unfolded across reflective black and gunmetal surfaces. Hydrangea, tea roses, and orchids cascaded through architectural lines, while white phalaenopsis orchids introduced softness and luminosity. The design evoked Central Park — where greenery rises quietly between steel and stone, transforming structure into sanctuary.
🌆 Urban Pulse
(Inspired by Times Square & NYC Graffiti)
Bold structure met living texture in this layered installation. Industrial forms and reflective surfaces referenced the grid and glow of Times Square, while original graffiti artwork by infused the piece with movement, color, and youthful energy. Lush green florals and cascading white phalaenopsis orchids broke through the geometry — a reminder that even in the city’s brightest corridors, nature endures.
