American Legion Molly Pitcher Post 434 Englishtown NJ The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans.

Today is the 50th Anniversary of the fall of Saigon, which is generally acknowledged as the end of the Vietnam War.
In light of the chaos and negativity surrounding Englishtown these days We need to acknowledge a Son of Englishtown who made the Ultimate Sacrifice for us.
Floyd Harold (Butch) Goff was born on March 31,1950 to Floyd and Dorothy Goff. He was 1 of 8 children. He was raised on Wilson Avenue.
He Enlisted in the United States Army and after Basic Training was assigned to the 159th Security Guard Company as a Aircraft Maintenance Specialist. He deployed to the Republic of Vietnam and ended up in the Port of Cat Lai in Gia Dinh Province.
On February 25,1971 while attempting to traverse between two watercraft, He fell into the river, was swept away and drowned. He was 21 years old.
His name is inscribed on the Vietnam War Wall in Washington DC, panel 4w line 5.
At 6pm on April 30,1975, the air horns at the old firehouse at 13 Main Street which served as the Englishtown Fire Department alert system were sounded as an acknowledgement of this moment. It was both chilling and comforting at the same time.
