🦀Childhood crabbing kit: string, raw chicken legs, and a net. 🦀
My childhood summer days were spent down at the inlet off the North End of Carolina Beach, swimming or crabbing. We didn’t have crab pots – we had nets with handles. We tied some string to the end of a raw chicken leg, crouched down at the edge of the sound right there in the muck, tossed the leg into the water a short ways, and waited for that telltale tug. Pull it in slow, scoop it up fast, hope for the best. Some of my favorite summer days happened exactly that way.
Decades later, I’m still on the coast — Emerald Isle now, here on the Crystal Coast — and when this little metal crab landed on The Bow Bar, he didn’t just get a bow. He got a whole wreath.
Hand-tied luxury bow in bright orange, bold blue, sunny yellow, soft turquoise, and a surprise of silver to match the accent picks. Built on a grapevine wreath. Built with a memory.
Tell me – did you grow up crabbing? What was your kit?
