I LOVE SCABIOSA! I can’t say it without thinking of Harry Potter. It’s scabi-OH-sa, not scabios-AH.

The seed pods make collecting seed so easy and it definitely gives cottage garden vibes! A must grow! I love the black knight variety. It’s such a rich color and I’ve found it has a great growth habit. The others are cute, too, though.

Cut and come again! Harvest when the first few petals start to open! It blooms and opens fully over the next few days!

Varieties grown:
Black Knight
Salmon Rose
Snowmaiden
Starflower

I’m OBSESSED 🤩

Hanging Amaranthus is a must grow! This variety is “Love Lies Bleeding”. I did start some Coral Fountain and Emerald Tassel varieties, but those met an unexpected end when Ryan went a little too close to my seed trays with the blower. The seeds were surface sown, and the whole top layer of soil is now in the yard. 🥲

The only acceptable form of payback is for those seeds to germinate and grow in the lawn. But, even if they don’t, there’s always next year.

One thing Ryan and I have really loved about living where we do is that there is so much agriculture around us. Sure, there’s corn, cotton, and peanuts, but there’s also cabbage, asparagus, peppers, and so many other really cool crops. We appreciate the farmers and how disciplined they are with their crop rotations, planting, and all the really cool machines they have to maintain and harvest. I know Jack is going to love seeing all their equipment as he grows up.

One morning, our first year in the house, I woke up terrified to the sound of a WW2 bomber… It was actually a crop duster, but to a dramatic person like myself at 7am, there isn’t really a difference. And if you’ve heard one flying what seems like 30 yards above your house, you know how loud they are. Now we’re used to it and really enjoy watching this guy spray. Since we’re not sure what he’s spraying, we do it from the safety of our house, but it really is super cool to watch.

If you know who crop dusts along Nate Store Rd, tell him we think he’s super cool and we’re sorry for videoing him like creepers.

All of last week’s bouquets were picked up by some super sweet men for their wives/fiancés. 🥹 Poor Ryan, what do you get a girl who grows her own flowers? This week, if you’re taking them to someone elderly, they’re free - just let me know so I can account for numbers on my end 🫶🏻

Otherwise, front porch pick up in Elloree or delivery to St. Matthews for small fee. $20 each
