While I appreciate the brief clip of the video that was shared, it lacks critical context. Before commenting on my anger, it’s important to acknowledge what occurred beforehand: I was shoved to the ground. As a citizen, I have every right to be vocal about an injustice—especially one that directly impacted me and my community.
If you had stayed for the entirety of the meeting, as many of us did, you would have had your full three minutes to speak. Choosing to leave early was your decision, not anyone else’s responsibility. I was far from the only person who spoke on this matter, because this issue affects our community as a whole.
Lastly, requesting that the Chief of Police not be present at a meeting where the community was holding her accountable is unacceptable. Public officials should not be shielded from public scrutiny—especially when serious concerns are being raised.
