Coming out for Improv this Friday? Come early and take part in the Next-In for the Elgin Short Film Festival!

Anyone is welcome to be a part of the Next-In this Thursday, September 4th and Friday September 5th to vote for the next film to make the finals to be shown at the 17th Annual Elgin Short Film Festival on September 20th.

These films need your vote to be shown on the big screen! Next-In is free, and doors open at 6:30 pm with the films being shown at 7 pm. The films are 20 min or less. Next-In is being held in our brand new event space in our addition (with a full cash bar!).

Explore the world of puppetry through the eyes of 9 year old Juana as she fights to save her society. Written and directed by Chicago artist, Rocio “Chio” Cabrera- Coz, Juana and the Missing Mayan Book is a performance like no other! In the midst of the Spanish invasion of what is now Yucatan, México, the Mayans battled for peace, independence, and cultural preservation. Follow Juana, a 9-year-old girl, as she sets out on a journey to save the few lasting remnants of the ancient Mayan society. Folktales, poetry, hope, and nature are explored. Juana and the Missing Mayan Book will transport you to another world where mythology and hope clash against oppression.

The annual Elgin Short Film Festival is back, and is one of the most anticipated events of the season. With a lineup of standout short films, a vibrant crowd, and a touch of red carpet glamour, it’s the perfect way to kick off your weekend.

Red Carpet Arrival & Pre-Show Entertainment begins at 6pm—come early, soak up the buzz, and snap a few photos!

Grab a cocktail, cue the popcorn, and let the lights dim—at 7pm, the screen comes alive with a curated selection of short films, each under 20 minutes and brimming with bold storytelling and visual artistry.

During intermission, the spotlight shifts to you—cast your vote for the film that moved you most.

Then enjoy a lively awards presentation hosted by the always-entertaining Daryl Nitz, known for his musical flair, celebrity impressions, and classic comedy style.

Head back to the 80's this Saturday with Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Dirty Dancing!

Enjoy a summer evening on the Hemmens South Lawn (45 Symphony way) with our line-up of iconic 80s classic movies- perfect for a date night or a fun hangout with friends! Each screening will feature themed pre-movie activities, a signature drink, and a unique experience tailored to the film. Movies will include Spanish subtitles. Grab a bite from the on-site food truck and enjoy drinks from the cash bar.

Pre-movie programming begins at 6:00pm.
The movie will begin at 7:30pm.

This is a double feature with Ferris Bueller's Day Off being shown first, and Dirty Dancing second.

This event is free and open to the public. In the case of bad weather, the event will be canceled. Follow the City of Elgin page, the Hemmens page or check the website for weather-related updates.
