Soaking in the final weeks of dahlias in my garden. Miss Amara - seen here with homegrown Queen Lime red zinnias, White Swan marigolds and lunaria - might be my favorite this season. Cheers to falling in love with flowers over and over again.

Tiny Heather would draw and color for hours on end. Teenage/early twenties Heather loved fashion sketching and the artistry and theatricality of couture. Grown Up Heather is remembering how much joy those things brought all the versions of me that came before. I think that’s why I love making intricate wearables so dang much. And hot damn was this one intricate! That’s one piece of wire meticulously wrapped around the base of this wearable. Talk about a labor of love!

As Summer nears its end, I had to share Michelle’s bouquet in all its mid-June glory! Just four delicate, textural ingredients - all locally grown - made my purple-lovin’ heart positively burst with joy. Never have I ever made a bridal bouquet so quickly and effortlessly.

Things I did and did not do yesterday, an inexhaustive list continued on each slide.

-I/we did make some solid progress in one of our gardens. I did not water it in. (Good news though, we got a pop up rain.)
-I did make this bouquet from 4 of my favorite things I have growing - Miss Amara and Peaches n Cream dahlias, White Swan marigolds and Queen Lime red zinnias. I did not have a smart plan for capturing it.

I did apply concealer and a cocktail in preparation for this. I did not brush my hair.

I did ask my husband to hang this mirror while I finished the bouquet. I did not clean said mirror.

I did try 3 different ribbons with this bouquet. I did not settle on a favorite. Do you have one?

I did officially get fed up with the gross lighting in my studio. I did vow to fix it. I did not make any moves towards that.

I did enjoy my Mezcal & Chinola margarita with a Tajin rim. I did not feel camera shy anymore.

I’m in a strange season in life and in work. But when I find myself in moments of melancholy, I know that going outside and putting my hands in the soil can pull me out of it. A couple of hours in the garden and I’m somehow overcome with gratitude even while battling weeds and bug pressure. So I’m making more time to do that and then to create something with what I have growing. It’s VERY good for me and maybe sharing it will be too. More to come…

My girl TableMade and I talked about different versions of this pedestal display piece on and off for a solid two years. What came to fruition was vastly different from our early ideas and so, so much better.
