My Christmas Miracle

Last week, on my drive home, a tree fell and crushed my car.

In the moment I felt the weight coming down on me, I knew surely that I was going to die. Strangely, there was peace. Everything happened fast, yet in slow motion. I ducked, closed my eyes, and when I opened them again, I realized I had survived.

I pulled myself out through the passenger side and looked back in disbelief. How was I spared? There must have been an angel watching over me.

I’m still in shock, and I know it will take time to fully process and physically heal, but I will be okay.

What I feel most is gratitude—deep gratitude—for the people who were there that day and throughout this healing process: my family, the firefighters and paramedics, the Stoughton police, the doctors and nurses in the ER, EMDR therapy, acupuncture, and the overwhelming love I’ve felt surrounding me…and of course the love from my Juniper, she wasn’t in the car.

I’ve loved my life and all the beautiful experiences I’ve had so far. I don’t know why I survived, and the lessons are still unfolding, but I do know this: life is precious, fragile, and miraculous all at once. Control is far more limited than we like to believe. I’m not invincible—but I am resilient. There’s more life to be lived.

Enjoy your life and love as hard as you feel. Hold the ones you love close. Cherish each other.
