✨3pm update: still a dozen arrangements left✨

The first wave of flowers is out, including some ADORABLE baby succulents thoughtfully donated by Michelle O’Connell! The filler foliage/flowers are a little lacking this week (and maybe for the rest of the year), so maybe a bit less polished than I’d like, but nevertheless the flowers are still beautiful!

And thanks to Catherine Shaw who left these little cute trinkets! They’ll guard the stand until they make their way to their next home. We spent the last week in Portland, and they had all these super fun trinket exchanges, so how cool to come home and find someone left us these!

Our travel plans unfortunately changed last minute, putting us on a red eye flight home instead of our original plan to get back last night. We’ll be home late morning now, but will likely be going right to sleep to try to catch up on what we missed on the plane. If we wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed, we hope to be able to get a few late afternoon flowers out to you all!

In the meantime, check out these cool crow sculptures from Portland, OR. Very similar to when Easthampton did the bears!

Part four of meet the flowers: celosia.

My absolute FAVORITE filler and a total workhorse in the garden. Celosia comes in many forms including plume, wheat, coral, and probably more that I don’t even know about. They come in a rainbow of colors, from the softest of pastels to the boldest, most color saturated, vibrant tones. They are so long lasting and can be dried to retain their beauty for the winter months.

You can start them inside 4-6 weeks before last frost or directly sow them once the soil warms. They also self seed with a vengeance. And the best part is they make SO many seeds to collect for next year! Give them space, about 12” in between, because they turn into gorgeous bushy plants.

I will have so many seeds to share with you all, which I’m super excited about!

We’re celebrating our second anniversary on this rainy Sunday, so what better day to introduce ourselves to those of you who have joined this page within the last year!

We’re Rebecca and Dylan, and we’re so happy we’re able to share our gardens with you all! We are two elder millennial nurses living the dream here in Easthampton. We love gardening (obviously), traveling, hiking, music, art, and really any excuse to be outside. Rebecca is a native to Massachusetts, born and raised one town over. Dylan is a California transplant who fell in love with beautiful New England a decade ago. In the last year, we’ve added two new team members, Jack and Aster. You may see them lounging on the front catio when you stop by the stand.

Thank you so much for loving our stand as much as we do. We are constantly in awe of this little community around us and how lucky we are to be a part of it. 💜

Part three of meet the flowers: feverfew.

This is our first year growing this adorable little filler flower, and we can’t wait to try more varieties.

A low maintenance perennial that blooms first year and also readily self seeds, which means you’ll just keep getting more and more with each year after your first planting. We winter sowed ours, but I believe you can just sprinkle seeds in the fall or early spring and let nature do its thing.

From my brief experience and what I’ve read, they seem to bloom in the cooler months, so late spring and I’m now getting a second flush of flowers now that fall is here. They are low growing and perfect for garden borders. 💜

Good morning! The dahlias really are the stars this morning, I just can’t get enough of them! Stop by on your way to work for some of these beauties.

Oh boy, another rainy weekend, meaning the stand will be closed Saturday and Sunday.

But have no fear, Friday is (almost) here! We’ll have the stand loaded up tomorrow morning for you. 🙂

I’m a little worried about what these potential storms might do to our plants, so here’s to hoping they stand up to the rain and wind so that we can get another couple weekends!

Regardless of what the flowers do over the next couple of weeks, we are planning a little baked goods and craft day to close out the stand for the season, likely the weekend of 10/17! We’ll have bread, cookies, tote bags, cards, maybe more!

Part two of our meet the flowers series: cosmos!

Cosmos are another easy to grow flower for your cutting garden. My pictures only include single petal style, but they do also have fluffy, double petalled cosmos that are so pretty.

The more common cosmo colors are pinks and white, but they come in all shades of pink, maroon, stripy bicolored, orange, peach, and even a deep chocolate color. Their delicate, wispy foliage makes a great bouquet filler, adding airiness and texture.

These plants can get rather large, so give them plenty of space. Aim to plant them about 12” apart and don’t be surprised when they get to be over six feet tall! They readily self seed, so you’ll have cosmos for years to come if you don’t remove the seed heads. I have found they do the best when direct sown after last frost.
