The theme of Season 4, Episode 9 is 9 to 5: Pouring Ourselves Cups of Ambition. With the passing of Dolly Parton, we’re going to celebrate her with a theme centered on the 1980 film 9 to 5. Trivia will cover Dolly Parton and her music, as well as a deep dive on the film, the issues it raised, and its legacy. We’ll also focus on labor struggles of the past and of today, and how the concept of a 9 to 5 job became a thing. We invite you to join us for our tribute to Dolly Parton and both figuratively and literally sing her songs!

ABOUT THE TRIVIA PIECE:
We all suck at trivia. Our goal isn’t to test you but to playfully roll around in the theme of the month. You’ll laugh, you might cry, and you’ll definitely learn something.
Teams of any size, play alone, play casually, or get into it. We’ll introduce you to some new people to play with if you’d like.
If you like to compete, Marigold gift cards of $50 and $25 for the top two scoring teams, and in Season 4, we have introduced the legacy Popcorn Noir Traveling Trivia Trophy from an alternate timeline. Winning team takes it home for the month, with license to adorn it as they see fit.

SKYE’S TRIVIA VARIETY SHOW is a collaborative, q***r-run production, written by Harper Doherty and hosted by Ivy Davida and Elana Rosičková. The three of us are a “system,” three distinct entities sharing one very non-binary, shapeshifted body (they/them). The show is named after our octopus Skye, in a nod to versatility and the focus on community outreach.

The theme of Season 4, Episode 8 is TRADE: From the Silk Road to q***r makers’ markets. And accordingly we invite our community to participate in a swap meet- bring stuff to trade!

We’ve done this before. Last December, our theme was ‘C is for Cookie,’ and we had a cookie swap. So don’t overthink this. Bring an item, take an item. Bring a few, take a few. We’re thinking puzzles, mugs, plants, seeds, spices, books, etc.

Skye community members who are makers are also invited to sell items for currency or for a personally negotiated exchange of items, at own their individual table. If interested, feel free to reach out with questions, concerns, or accommodation requests at [email protected]

For this event, doors will be at 6pm and we’ll allow a full hour for folx to mingle, get drinks, swap items, and then we’ll start the trivia section at 7pm sharp. Trivia will of course cover the history of trade, with a strong focus on the Silk Road and its pivotal role as an engine of change in history, but also move to more contemporary times. Plus we’ll get into trade as a subject of popular culture and anything else we come across in our research.

We’re back! Friends of Skye, we’ve missed you! We’ve enjoyed the long break, but it’s time to get back to it. Our next event is coming up Thursday July 23 and we’re super excited to see you all again!

This month we’ll revel in the music of cinema- our favorite scores and soundtracks from films of all time. Our audience performative/participatory element will be…. TBA. (working on it… sing alongs? open to suggestion!) Trivia will definitely involve sound clues at points, and we may just have to bring back a fun category from the past, “The French Horns of Adventure.”

Immediately following our event, Marigold Theater will present Barbie, the 2023 film directed by Greta Gerwig. It seemed an apt choice for our theme and is personal favorite of our hosts. The screening is free and you’re welcome to stick around and watch together with us!

There is no Skye's Trivia Variety Show event tonight. Some folks may have not gotten the memo,but our next event will be Thursday July 23 and henceforth we’ll be monthly on a Thursday. Details on the next event very soon!

In the meantime we’re enjoying the extended break between shows, chillin’ at as much as we can. See y’all soon!

On April 1 Skye’s Trivia Variety Show will have its 40th consecutive monthly event, so you’d be a FOOL not to come! (see what we did there?) In our 4th year, it’s time we take a look back at what we’ve done during our epic run at Marigold Theater. Accordingly, you the audience- our community- will have the floor to exchange stories about the big events and accomplishments of your lives. In between our shared vignettes, this event will feature our favorite trivia questions from the past 3 1/2 years. Call it a clip show, a best of, and a chance to experience some of what you’ve missed. Season 4, Episode 4, don’t miss it!
