To our brides and grooms, thank you for trusting us with one of the most important days of your lives. To everyone who has celebrated anniversaries, showers, graduations, family gatherings, and special events with us, thank you for allowing us to be part of your story.
It is a privilege to watch so many unforgettable memories unfold against the beautiful backdrop of Tawas Bay. Your trust inspires us to continue creating a place where family, friends, and generations can gather to celebrate life’s biggest moments.

Excited for what’s to come…

A New Chapter for Lake Life Cottages

Some buildings are more than bricks and mortar—they’re part of a community’s story.

Today, we’re excited to announce that Lake Life Cottages has purchased the historic former William Look & Sons property on the corner of Newman Street and Westover Street in downtown East Tawas.

This isn’t simply the purchase of another building. It’s a long-term investment in downtown East Tawas and the Sunrise Side we love so much.

Since the beginning, Lake Life Cottages has been about more than providing exceptional places to stay. Our mission has always been to introduce more people to everything that makes Michigan’s Sunrise Side so special and create experiences that keep them coming back year after year.

Years ago, families from Detroit and across Michigan made the Tawas area a favorite destination to relax, reconnect, and enjoy life along Lake Huron. Our vision is to help rekindle that spirit by introducing a new generation of visitors to everything the Sunrise Side has to offer while supporting the local businesses and community that make this area so special.

As an extension of Lake Life Cottages, this historic property represents the next chapter of our hospitality journey. Through a series of thoughtful phases, we’ll restore this landmark, create welcoming places for people to gather, and breathe new life into this historic downtown corner while honoring its rich history.

Meaningful projects take time, and we’ll continue sharing updates as each phase unfolds and the vision becomes reality.

We’re honored to become the next caretakers of this historic property and grateful for the opportunity to help write its next chapter.

This is more than a renovation.

It’s the restoration of a landmark, an investment in our community, and a commitment to helping more people discover and experience the very best of Michigan’s Sunrise Side.

We’ve been off to a busy season at The Beach Barn at Lake Life Cottages, and every weekend reminds us how special it is to be part of each couple’s story.

A special shoutout to Justin and Haylee Photography for capturing Holly and David’s beautiful wedding day so beautifully.

One of our favorite parts of every wedding is watching each bride and groom’s vision come to life. We also love hearing the stories that bring couples back to the Sunrise Side. Holly and David shared wonderful family connections to the Tawas area spanning generations, including memories of The Lakeside Restaurant and Minty’s Cabins.

It’s stories like these that remind us that weddings are about so much more than one day—they’re about family, tradition, and creating the next chapter in places that have meant so much for generations.

Summer Internship Opportunity | Lake Life Cottages

Lake Life Cottages, a boutique waterfront resort on the shores of Lake Huron, is seeking two hospitality interns to join our team for the upcoming season.

Located on Michigan’s beautiful Sunrise Side, our property includes luxury cottages and The Beach Barn, our private lakefront wedding venue. Interns will gain real, hands-on experience in hospitality and event management while working alongside our team during a busy and exciting season.

Available Internship Positions

Intern II – Senior Level (May–October)
Designed for a college senior pursuing hospitality, tourism, event management, marketing, or business. This role will work through our full wedding season and may extend beyond October for the right candidate.

Intern I – Sophomore/Junior (June–August)
Ideal for a college sophomore or junior looking to gain real-world hospitality experience during summer break.

Internship Experience May Include:
• Resort and guest hospitality operations
• Wedding and event coordination support
• Bartending and bar service during wedding events
• Property operations and guest services
• Marketing and behind-the-scenes business operations

This is a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where interns will learn how a boutique resort and lakefront wedding venue operates from the inside.
