Women in the Arts Festival

Women in the Arts Festival Celebrating women-centered creativity and community since 1985!!!

The Annual Women in the Arts Festival (WITA) is a celebration of regional women artists that takes place during the second weekend of November each year in East Lansing, Michigan. The festival features artists, musicians, poets, and other creative arts as a symbol of our commitment to support women in creative pursuits. WITA is a volunteer-run organization with the goal of creating space for creative women to showcase their talents.

Greetings, WITA Community!

2025 will be a special year for Women in the Arts! We will have some commemorative activities at the festival this year and we're looking for some artwork to help us mark the occasion! Maybe you will create it!

We're looking for a design to be used on commemorative merch (shirts, mugs, hats... that sort of thing). These are some of the details:
Should embody the spirit of -WITA: art, music, community, women, and more
-Should reference the 40th Anniversary and East Lansing (optional)
-Can be full color, but should be able to adapt to a small format either by simplifying color or design. Bonus if it works in monochrome as well.

Here is the timeline for submissions:
-July 6: Preliminary rough/concept submission deadline
-August 3: Final artwork due; committee may request edits

We will be awarding $500 to the artist whose work is selected.

Please let us know if you have any questions about this. We can't wait to see your ideas!

Send your questions or entries to producer[at]witafestival.com

At last year's festival, Holly Near talked about bringing pianists Mary Watkins and Tammy L Hall together in a studio with two pianos. Both are classically trained, both comfortable in multiple styles, both fine jazz artists, one in her sixties and one in her eighties.

They played for three days - spontaneous, improvisational, material they already know deep in their bones and thus was born Hymns, Dreams and Acts of Faith.

We are thrilled to announce that it is now available for sale in both CD and USB formats, just in time for International Women's Day!

Thanks to all who were part of the 39th Annual Women in the Arts Festival. Our celebration of creativity and community wouldn’t be the same without each of you: shoppers, diners, concertgoers, performers, dauberers, bingo callers, artists, cooks, servers, advertisers, donors, bidders, and more. You all made it a warm and welcoming place.

Shout out to the dedicated volunteers whose cheerful refrain was “what else can I do? How can I help?” You’re the best.

We appreciate our sponsors and partners: Michigan State University College of Music, Sistrum, Lansing Women's Chorus, Priscilla Muriel Feigenbaum, The Plant Professionals, and Ten Pound Fiddle Concerts and Dances.

On behalf of your WITA Board/committee (Tari Griffin-Muñiz, Liz Coburn, Susan Frazier, Alicia A Bleil, Julie Haan, Val Osowski, Abby Wattenberg, Kate Peterson), we look forward to seeing you next year as we celebrate our 40th Annual Women in the Arts Festival.

New to Women in the Arts Festival, it's L***o Bingo! Join us at 4 pm on Saturday, at the conclusion of the WITA 2024 Day Stage. Come for the comedy and the cat sculpture prize you never knew you needed. Stay for the bad puns and the joy of good old fashioned game play with a great community. We will be joined by a celebrity caller who, when asked to call, declared "I am Willing" and, more importantly, "I Ain't Afraid." Like most* events at Women in the Arts, bingo is free. We will not be checking le***an credentials for bingo entry, but a good sense of humor is required. Let's have some fun!

*events requiring ticket purchase include:
Joy Clark - Women in the Arts Festival on Friday night and Holly Near - An Evening of Stories & Song on Saturday night.

Pro tip: Cash is queen this weekend at Women in the Arts Festival. While many artists in the WITA Artist's Market have the capacity to accept electronic payments/cards, the wifi and cell signal is notoriously unpredictable at Edgewood United Church, UCC... Please stop at an ATM before you come to shop and/or bring checks.
