Dec. 3, 2021 had 3 hosts from one team. A new concept being tried to help get different people hosting. A Good Idea. However, new hosts need to read some information previously posted on how to host. It is clear that playing is not a primer on hosting. The first host had some questions that were worded poorly. One such was asked what date was the single worst in terms of American deaths in battle. He wanted what battle, so when questioned he had to clarify he wanted the name of the battle, not the date. He also asked some TV questions that were on a pay per view station. Though I always thought that was not fair, younger players on my team liked them. I thought all 3 did a good job on free drink questions, with the exception of continually saying "This Person" instead of just saying he or she. The person who did the music has hosted many times, so she knew what she was doing, she usually has a good balance, but this night had very few from 1960's and older. The 3rd host had a lead-in free drink to her specialty round. A person from Broadway. Her final specialty round was not about Broadway, but what she called a jumping off from Broadway. So she started with a connection to Broadway and then went a completely different direction. The purpose of a specialty round is to aid players in getting answers, certainly NOT what was done here. Here are a few examples. 500 seats determine a Broadway venue, so how many points are awarded a winning trick in the card game 500? Or someone was married to someone else who was on Broadway, they share a name with what seaway? There was No way to predict where this person was going with any question. One question was confusing, she asked what song was number 1 in Billboard's Hot 100 on some date in 1958. In doing research, I found Billboard changed how they evaluated songs in 1958 to eliminate Jukebox plays, so the hot 100 was formed. For anyone to know music ranking on a certain date in 1958 is not a good or even a reasonable question. Each question was really just a general round question with no reason to include any Broadway connection. Certainly not a specialty round. Trivia was held in the bar area since the other venue was used for a Party. I did not think it would work, but though a little crowded, it was not too bad. The other bar patrons were courteous and a few of them, did play. Trivia will be in the bar area again next week. We will see how the 3 hosts from a team works. It will eliminate the requirements for each host to have to write so many questions. It would also help if we could find the primer that was written to help new hosts.
