In 2016 I “launched” a business with a desperation for a career I was passionate about, and - to be honest - just the right amount of naïveté… That year, one single, sweet, wonderful, kind, trusting couple and their families invited me to coordinate their wedding celebration, and as I drove home at 2am after a 16 hour day of bringing their wedding to life, I knew one thing: I had found what I was meant to do. I had no clue where things would go after that first wedding, but slowly the number of beautiful couples and celebrations grew alongside my experience and passion. I LOVED learning the ins and outs of this industry, and connecting with vendors following their own passions and working harder than anyone I’d ever known. Above all else, I became fulfilled - beyond what I knew was possible - by connecting with each couple and their families and the intimate nature of the planner/client relationship. I really do get to see such a personal view into peoples lives and it is one of the greatest privileges of my life and career.
Now, 10 years and 93 weddings later (and counting!), I still need to pinch myself when I think of it all. I have grown two babies in my belly while watching parents dance with their own grown babies. I have carried a small business through a global pandemic and come out better on the other side. I’ve watched couples navigate joy and challenges and loss and have learned so much about love and life through knowing them. I have seen the highest of highs and the happiest of tears. I have grown to know - deep in my core - that celebrating is the most important thing we can do in this life, and it will ALWAYS be worth it.
On Saturday we kicked off the 10th official season of Kelly Golia Events, exactly ten years and one day after that first wedding that changed everything. It will never be lost on me how lucky I am but also how much hard work it’s been to keep this dream going. And just like celebrating, it has always been worth it. ✨
