Another unique item from Firefly: our Wildwood Wreath.
Framed with grapevines and filled with pieces gathered from every nook and corner of the farm — the woods, the marsh, the prairie, and the garden.
Each wreath tells a story of the land around us.

This year’s batch is sold out. We’ll be taking orders again in late summer and early fall next season.

Challenged to do a porch pot built without using any conifers.

Everything here was harvested or foraged on the farm: bay from my bay tree, golden hops, phlox seed heads, cranberry viburnum, red osier dogwood, cattail, hydrangea, prairie grasses, and naturally shed antlers. All gathered responsibly — no deer harmed.

There’s so much beauty, shape, and texture in the plants around us that we don’t need to add bows, ornaments, or anything flashy.
At Firefly Hill, we try to let things look the way they are — natural, unforced, and true to the landscape here.
This porch pot is a good example of what that looks like in practice.

Hoarfrost morning on the prairie.
Fog froze into long, delicate crystals on every seedhead and grass stem — turning the whole field white for a few hours.
I always wish I could bring hoarfrost indoors and tuck it into a bouquet, but it’s one of those things that only exists for a brief walk and a cold breath.

We’re likely wrapping our fresh-flower season this weekend. Grateful for our local community — and excited to share how we kept bouquets going into November.
We’ll still be offering foraged/dried arrangements and centerpieces through Thanksgiving.
Read the secrets and see what’s still blooming:

*Foraged/Dried Bouquets — Wild-gathered accents from our woods and prairies, paired with farm-dried blooms we couldn’t bear to say goodbye to. Each bouquet is hand-tied, naturally long-lasting, and one-of-a-kind.

On our most recent blog, A Confusion of Guineas: The Beauty and Chaos They Bring, we share what life is really like with these polka-dotted clowns on the farm. From their piercing alarms to their softer chatter that sounds uncannily like the Sesame Street Martians, guineas have a way of filling the farm with both noise and laughter.

We even tell the story of Pops — a father guinea who stepped up in the most unexpected way.

Read the full story here:

There are many critters on our farm, but the guinea fowl are no doubt among the most unique. We love having these beautiful, polka-dotted clowns for many reasons. First and foremost, like any animal here, they’re part of the farm simply because we enjoy hosting them. That said, they bring plenty o...

First fun photo! 🦌 A few deer families have decided to camp out around here. Early in the summer I tried to shoo them along so they wouldn’t get too used to people… but that didn’t work too well. Now they’re regulars, sharing the yard with the chickens and geese.
