t client sites -- public charter and private schools, daycares and out-of-school enrichment programs. All our clients operating under the National School Lunch Program consistently keep their participation levels and revenues high, maximize reimbursements, make full use of commodities and surpass the expectations of auditors when they undergo their USDA Administrative Reviews. Nourishing bodies, minds and cultures
Our founder, Nancy Close, is from the restaurant family behind St. Paul’s former Caravan Serai, the first Afghan restaurant in the United States. Nancy grew up in, and eventually bought, that business, which birthed Caravan Kids Catering. Since catering our first daycare center from the Caravan Serai kitchen in the early 90s, CKC Good Food has focused on finding new ways to tempt the taste buds of people across many different cultures, while incorporating fresh, high quality ingredients. Even under today’s strict nutritional guidelines of the National School Lunch Program and other federal nutrition programs, we have upheld our commitment to providing delicious, healthful, restaurant-quality meals that inspire happy eaters. Fighting Summer Hunger, One Meal at a Time 🚐🥗

The Open Door's Mobile Lunchbox program is serving up more than just meals—it’s serving hope. Partnering with 6 Dakota County school districts, Mobile Lunchbox distributed nearly 33,000 lunches in summer 2024.

With support from local donors, and a volunteer-driven fleet, nutritious meals are delivered to apartment complexes, playgrounds, and manufactured home communities 5 days a week—plus weekend snack packs on Fridays.

One standout: Lakeville Area Schools, where private funding allows kids to simply pick up their CKC Good Food-prepared meals and eat at home. That district alone accounted for 16,000 meals last summer.

We’re proud to help fill the hunger gap through our partnership with The Open Door Pantry!

Parents are increasingly concerned about added sugars in their kids’ diets and new nutritional guidelines for the School Breakfast Program reflect those concerns.

As of July 1, 2025, updated USDA nutritional guidelines limit added sugars in cereals, yogurt and flavored milk offered for school breakfast. Added sugars will further be limited to less than 10% of weekly calories at both breakfast and lunch come July 1, 2027.

Incremental changes such as these are often more "palatable" for kids and give manufacturers time to adapt their recipes. It's important to note, these limits exclude natural sugars found in fruit and 100% fruit juices. Baked goods, which are also excluded, are specially produced to meet the USDA guidelines for whole grains and calorie limits, and have less sugar than similar foods found at the supermarket.
