(Late post 8/21/15) HAPPY 11TH BIRTHDAY, PLUMPEEZ! 🎉

ELEVEN YEARS. 🤯

11 years of big sandwiches, crazy ideas, long days, early mornings, late nights, laughs, challenges, celebrations, and SO MANY amazing people who have supported us along the way.

What started as an idea became a business.
That business became a community.
And YOU have been a huge part of the journey.

From our very first sandwiches to catering, events, charcuterie creations, and everything in between… Plumpeez has continued to grow, evolve, and keep y’all FED!

We’ve had our ups. We’ve had our downs. We’ve changed. We’ve pivoted. We’ve figured things out as we went.

But one thing has NEVER changed:

WE LOVE WHAT WE DO. 💜

And after 11 years, we’re still here. Still creating. Still serving. Still dreaming up what’s next.

To every customer who has ordered from us, shared a post, told a friend, booked us for an event, brought us into your school, supported us during a transition, or simply cheered us on…

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

11 years in business is no small thing — and we know we didn’t get here alone.

Here’s to 11 years behind us…

…and whatever we decide to get into next! 😂

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PLUMPEEZ!

WHAT DOES “LOCAL” REALLY COST?

Sometimes we see the price of a handmade, homemade, locally produced, or farm-grown item and think, “That’s more than I would pay at the grocery store.”

And that’s fair. But here’s something important to understand:

You aren’t comparing the same thing.

When you shop at a farmers market or local kitchen market, you’re often purchasing products made in smaller quantities, by real people, using real ingredients, with time, care, and craftsmanship behind them.

You’re supporting:

-Local farmers
-Locally grown produce
-Homemade baked goods
-Small-batch food producers
-Handmade specialty foods
-Local artisans and makers
-Small businesses and creatives
-Entrepreneurs building something from the ground up

And behind every product are costs customers may never see—ingredients, packaging, equipment, permits, insurance, market fees, transportation, preparation time, labor, and countless hours of work.

That $8 jar isn’t just $8 worth of ingredients.

It represents the cost of making it, packaging it, the expenses of running the business, and the livelihood of the person who created it.

Small businesses also don’t have the buying power of large corporations.

A grocery store may purchase thousands of units at wholesale prices. A local maker may purchase a few dozen ingredients or supplies at retail or small-business pricing.

That’s a very different business model.

So the next time you walk through a local or farmer’s market, don’t just ask:

“Why does this cost more?”

Ask:

“Who made this?”
“Where did it come from?”
“What went into making it?”
“Who am I supporting when I purchase it?”

Because when you spend $20 at a local market, that money has a very different journey than $20 spent with a large corporation.

It helps a local entrepreneur buy supplies, a farmer continue growing, a maker keep creating, a small business pay its bills, and someone pursue a dream.

It keeps money circulating right here in our community.

I know everyone’s budget is different, and I’d never tell anyone what they should or shouldn’t spend.

But I will continue educating our community about the value behind local, homemade, handmade, farm-grown, and small-batch products.

Because local isn’t always the cheapest option.

But local is an investment.

An investment in people.
An investment in small business.
An investment in the community.

So when you shop remember:

You’re not just buying a product. You’re supporting someone’s work, passion, and dream.

Shop local.
Know your makers.
Know your farmers.
Know the story behind what you buy.
