Monkey Bottom Collaborative Our intent is to foster the creative community spirit in Durham. Monkey Bottom Collaborative has space available to share with our community.

There are two adjoining spaces, one is an open, gallery-style space of about 500 sf with a stage , which is another 100 sf, and the other side is about 800 sf.There is also a shared bathroom, kitchenette, outside garden area, covered front porch, and parking lot. This could be used on a long term, short term or intermittent basis: we are open to many permutations. rates are negotiable. though we

consider many factors in our rates, a general range is:
250 for an event on a weekend, 150 for a simple day event, 600 for a week long event. however, we would be pleased to negotiate deeply discounted rates for ongoing and/or easily set up events ie music jams, classes, etc: please don't hesitate to ask us. please note: For anything beyond a one or two day/ night event, the monkeybottom artists share kitchenette and bathroom and would need access through or around your space to the shared areas. there are photos on this site: you may see more on the airbnb site

you may inquire either directly via the contact info we have listed above (dianne's email, joe's phone) or, if you prefer, via the airbnb platform (which necessitates airbnb's fees)

8/11/2020 Update: for at least the next year, MoBo is pleased to be the studio home of Jackie MacLeod, artist/metalworker extraordinaire, and Resolute, the group building Bull City Commons Co-housing....we’ll be looking forward to offering outdoor space for community events soon...

(please let us know if you want to make something happen outdoors there....garden space, large parking lot, and we’ll be able to offer one indoor bathroom...)

Considering renting out our space, either to share with us or possibly the whole she-bang, for 6-12 months. Are you interested? The entire 1600+ space would be in the range of 1500-2000 $ plus utilities...shared, less. Holler.
(Please understand we are feeling out options....vastly in favor of the arts/community engagement but open to other ventures. No specifics yet.)

Monkey Bottom believes that, while our goal is to support the forces of good in our community by sharing space and expertise for everyone’s projects and events, our overriding aim is to care for our community. We have been monitoring the current Covid-19 pandemic, and are resolved to be part of the solution: social distancing and caution.

MoBo has cancelled its upcoming events, and will not be accepting any requests for (most *) events which occur before April 19: we will update plans at that time.

(*In the interim, if you have a plan that involves solo use or a very small and cautious gathering, we would support you in that endeavor .)

PLease, be welcome to post on our page any of your creative community solutions to gatherings. (We will be planing to host an outdoor, six foot apart parking lot dance party in warmer weather should social distancing needs continue into warm evening weather...TBD.)

In the meantime, please take care of each other. What we are doing is “flattening the curve:” info below.
And, here is a link to the NC Dept of Health, which we believe has reliable information.
We miss you , and hope to be together soon.

Best,
MoBo aka Dianne Freund and Joe Galas

The early trickle of new coronavirus infections has turned into a steady current. By creating simple simulations, we can see how to slow it down.

Attention all MoBo denizens past, present and future! Rise Up! I know sometimes we feel helpless and hopeless, but if we come together and speak out and VOTE.... maybe we can bring some evil to its knees. They will buy everything they can buy, but they cannot directly purchase your mark on that voting ballot. Of course there will still be evil...but you gotta do what you can. So, please, VOTE. If you need help getting there, or need me to watch your kids while you go to the polls, or need to discuss your candidate a bit...or need to talk about your friend , who doesn’t think he/she is gonna vote because it doesn’t make a difference....please holler , cuz i want us to all VOTE and get this s**t going in a better direction. THanks. Here’s a video that isn’t as rant-y!

We met Bria Davenport when she organized an event at MoBo a few years back. Another Superhero for the Forces of Good. Yay, Bria!
