invited me to flower a fun event they hosted - a sip and paint! I've always wanted to attend one, so I was so excited.  It was a sold out event and everyone had a blast. While we painted flower images on canvases, we sipped a variety of wines they have on site, paired with a tasty collection of cheeses. I put the bright local blooms into one of my fave vessels -  wooden dough bowl.

(P.S.They're open for private events - so you can book them for a large event, such as a wedding, in their barn space, or a small event, such as a rehearsal dinner or baby shower, in their sunroom. Check them out!)

A few more from Michelle & Doug's Prestonwood soiree. The ballroom screams large and lush, so these fluffy elevated arrangements served time down the aisle, in the "altar" space, and finally on the tables as centerpieces during the reception. P.S. I like having some unexpected details. Every designer knows large focal flowers go at the base while lighter blooms go on top. I decided "What the heck? I'm gonna try this." Everyone loved it. All is right in the world. :-)

I've been organizing my photos (haven't I, tho, for like a million years?). I ran across this gem - a beautiful backdrop in the Meadows woodsy ceremony space. I had so much fun at this open house. And I will never stop admiring this model for bearing extremely low temperatures wearing this gown. It was in the teens..in North Carolina...which never happens, right? It was so cold that when I was installing this hanging arch arrangement, my zip ties were snapping. Literally snapping because they were frozen. Like a true Elsa, this model acted as if the cold never bothered her anyway.

On Instagram, I went years with little posting and rarely scrolled to engage with others. (Many long stories on that topic.) I tried using the Later scheduling app and my post engagement went down. I tried Meta scheduling as well (owned and operated by FB and IG), and my engagement went to single digits literally over night. I've tried several times over the years, but haven't had success in getting my page seen by my followers like it was before. I'm hoping if I have an influx of new followers, it'll help my page be seen by more people. So.... If you like seeing pretty flower pics, you can follow us on IG at poppy_belle_design. I appreciate it so much!

When having an audience doesn't even phase true love from shining thru. Sandy & Chris back in 2022.

P.S. Like this one, an elegant indoor setting, in July, in NC, is much more romantic than sweaty people and limp blooms. 😊

Speaking of... Photogs, if we shared clients in 2022, please let me know. I've been trying to gather photos from that nutso year, but am having little luck. I know it was a long time ago, BUT I'll sing your praises on SM!

This gorgeous image is from . Thank you so much for sharing your work with me!

I am absolutely green with envy over this bride, Grizel. In every single image, she looks like a superstar. Every. Single. One. Who doesn't have a bad side at all?! It's so not fair to the rest of us! I adored working with her. And I'm thankful for her as well. It was a very early "post-pandemic" wedding when things were haywire. Is the wedding going to happen? If so, how to handle it - req'd vaccine or no vaccine? Why are flowers so dang expensive?! And why are half of them DOA? Why won't the wholesaler give us a refund for flowers falling apart?!!! Why can't we get the flowers we want or any for that matter, especially blush?!!! When will I get some sleep? LOL It was chaos in the wedding & the flower world. Designers all over the world were impressed and thankful for the grace of our brides. In the end, we were able to put together pretty arrangements & have a good time.

Having littles in your wedding is so special. The kids will treasure their time feeling like little princesses, fairies, or anything else small & cute. They have a way of displaying pure happiness that is contagious. On a side note... I love making pretty flower crowns for them. Cuz you know it's all about me. ;-)

Part B: Lauren's favorite flower is a lily. We explored a variety of types of lilies and decided to load all her arrangements with as many as we could fit! We used double oriental lilies, mini calla lilies, and peruvian lilies. Her color palette was all shades of purple and white, so we added some minerva carnations (bi-color) to bring them all together.

A bushel of garden roses, a dollop of ruscus, a dash of sweetpea, cover with fern, and baste with - cooks up to be one of the most delicious bridal bouquets ever

Cascade bouquets can be tricky. They look amazing when held in the correct way, but if they're not, they can look kinda funny. Haha. As florists, when we see it facing the wrong way, we hold our breath until we find a pic where it's going in the right direction. The brides are so emotional, happy, etc . They're usually not thinking about which way the bouquet is trailing. Here, the bouquet was held as a pageant bouquet, and you know what? It totally works. 😊

Ana & Walker had one of my favorite color palettes ever - olive green, coral, peach, & blush. Her touches of olive green were so perfectly chosen - her napkins, her menus, the groom's tux - I loved it all. So this first image is all kudos for her decor choices! The 2nd is about me complimenting her choices with flowers. :-)

.n.b.photography has a style that is so perfect for Both are light & airy on overdrive. Love. And apparently so did this bride, She was a pleasure to work with, so laid back and sweet. She had just moved to Kansas with her fiance (while planning a wedding!), now hubby, Kevin Saxton, as he accepted a position as a football coach with the Chiefs. I did a little cyber stalking and he actually went to Emory & Henry College (to play football), which is the area where I grew up. I bet we passed unknowingly in the lovely rolling hills of southwestern Virginia.

I wish more brides would include personal touches in their wedding centerpieces. In 20 years, I can only think of a few. One did hot sauce, the groom's fave condiment. One did baby pics as table numbers. But this one was one of my faves. It combined the personal with elegance. Lana’s brother is a potter and made these vases for her wedding day. It was such a gorgeous way to incorporate the aqua portion of her color palette. We added the red bits and voila. The petite vases were perfect for the small intimate tables at Caffe Luna.

I never dreamed at any point in my life that I would become a florist. The only florist experience I had was ordering funeral flowers in my hometown. The lady was a petite older woman with a cute little country shop. She was the only florist around within 45 minutes from where I got married, so naturally provided my wedding blooms. She let me choose my fave bouquet from an inspiration book. Other than her funeral flowers, I'd never seen any of her work, not in real life or in photos. I chose this wild and free cascade bouquet, which was definitely not the norm back then (20+ years ago). The bouquet was beautiful but was not in any way wild and free. LOL. Her creation was the norm. Classic. Timeless. Safe. So if you’re looking for a florist who likes to think outside the box, you’ve found me.

Tia B'elle will be going into 9th grade this fall. She'll be in the engineering program. I can't believe I'll have 2 highschoolers. It makes me feel old...and sad. Sad because they've grown so fast. They'll be off to college in no time. I can't wrap my head around them not being those feisty little girls that wanted all my attention every moment of the day. I miss that so much. I love having teens but it's sorta like fall. It's great but it means they're about to blow away. Maybe I need to adopt...

I ALWAYS recommend something for the . Even if you want to save money for the reception - don't put your bouquet on that table! Save money somewhere else. I have a perfect example for you. Photo 1 is before people arrived. Photo 2 is the . Would this look as magical without that backdrop?! No, it wouldn't! The sweetheart table is the back drop for every reception activity, so you'll get tons of photos of it. You won't regret this splurge in 20 years when you're reliving that day with the kiddos.

Kane used our metal stand in silver for the . She also used some of our table numbers and candles. (Stop with the gold people, let's mix it up!)

What am I up to these days? (This is me being ) Hmm. I'm organizing my photos because I'm SOOOO behind. The post-pandemic wedding world in 2021 and 2022 were such a blur. I don't even have all the pics yet! But I'm slowly working on it. If you're a out there who worked with me, thank you for sharing! I couldn't do my job without your beautiful images.

I'm a sucker for and sweet moments with .

Photog:

When I was a kid, a color called "country blue" became a huge trend (a little different than the dusty blue we use now). I bet we could google a 1990s Better Homes & Gardens and find an article about it. :-) Another fave was - the dusty rose hue. Not the purple-ish version sometimes called mauve. Because of that tend in the '90s, I have to ask brides which mauve they're referring to.. The blooms I'd propose for each would be so different. And peach has come back ( ) - in the - a mix of peach and country blue was the perfect combo.

Naturally, I was drawn to the the color, maybe it felt like . In 2012, I planned & designed a for a friend. It was so fun and so me. (She liked it, too, tho!) By 2015, when I opened a studio in Hillsborough, I started buying dusty blue rugs and curtains. I was already tired of he I'd had since 2013. (I was also tired of my biz name I'd had since 2004 but that's a story for a different time.) So the time to rebrand finally started in 2019. I announced my new name, new colors, new studio, in early 2020, then the pandemic hit. That took the wind out of my sails. From the use of mums, you can tell the pandemic was still causing flower shortages. (Thank you mums for being there when I needed you! LOL I wish I'd been able to get my fave.) But I digress. I love my company colors and I love this bride, Kane, and her palette was everything - no peach but a very deep dark red like the in her bouquets.

I've been loving working with and lately. Such a sweet color combo. The apricot is happy without being too and the peaches calm it. Love it. This one's for Kerry & Andrew. XO

Continuing my adventure in sharing and being . This is a struggle for me, as I don't usually share, I Iisten.

I listen to you. I pick your brain. I look at the images through your eyes. What are you drawn to? What blooms do you love? What shapes appeal to you based on your and your gown? What overall feeling are you going for throughout your event? The list goes on and on. I know most florists consider this a waste of time and assume clients love their work, so they can propose anything they'd like. And I totally get that in a way. But the exploration process is important to me. I want you to feel appreciated for your uniqueness. I'm not going to promise a replica of arrangements you find on Pinterest. There's many reasons for that, the biggest of which is that I create something that is . Reach out for a consultation and prepare to be heard.

More . I can't imagine the feeling of a dad feels "giving away" their daughter. Before you say it, I know we are not property to actually be given away. In my mind, it means, he's emotionally letting go of her in a way that he's not her primary source of protection & support anymore. He's relinquishing some of that honor to her new hubby.
