STEAM Park

STEAM Park STEAM Park is a community project with the vision of creating a riverfront venue for the arts and sciences (Science Theatre Education Art Music).

Like many western towns, Durango was founded on the banks of a river. In the past forty years, many communities like Durango have begun to view their rivers as assets and have developed their river fronts to enhance the urban experience for residents and visitors. Durango STEAM Park envisions space for a
cultural park along the Animas River that will feature Science, Theatre, Education, Art, and M

usic (hence, the acronym STEAM). This park would be adjacent to the Powerhouse Science Center creating a multi-use “cultural campus”. Park Features:
Along with a modern, professional indoor theatre, there would be a small outdoor amphitheater, galleries, outdoor science exhibits, meeting, event and retail spaces for things such as a restaurant, coffee shop, bar, and ice cream parlor—all in a park-like atmosphere along the existing river walk and within easy walking distance of downtown Durango. Patrons would to be able to see a film or watch a play or listen to music and, when the event is over, be able to have dinner, get some ice cream, play with some interactive science exhibits, walk through art galleries, visit the gift shop, or take a stroll along the Animas River. This type of cultural park would stimulate, enlighten, and entertain both residents and visitors.
