UMD professor doing more to keep clothes out of landfills 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

University of Minnesota Duluth engineering professor Abbie Clarke-Sather’s “fiber shredder” breaks clothing down into reusable threads in 90 seconds. The machine may help recycle clothing and keep it out of landfills.

Thank you to everyone who came to last night's Clothing Swap at ! And a big thank you to the media who came to spread the word!

Next steps: We will organize the clothing that is left over and donate them to the Teen Closet, Damiano, and Union Gospel Mission, based upon their needs.

The plan is to have the next swap in September, but in the meantime, if you hear of any other swaps (books, clothing, art supplies, etc) that are open to the public, feel free to send them our way to help promote

The next Community Clothing Swap will be coming up on Tuesday, June 9th at Ursa Minor Brewing! (Earlier time - this swap starts at 6:00pm!)

This event is FREE, open to the public, and for all genders and ages!

So clean out your closets and your cabinets, and get ready to swap your gently used treasures for something new!

All leftover clothing will be donated to a local organization that will give them away FOR FREE to folks who need them!

Bring a few small, in-demand items and see what you can trade—or just come ready to find a great deal. The choice is yours!
Got clothing that doesn’t sell? Leave it with us—we’ll donate it to Union Gospel Mission after the event.
Want to sell?
We’re looking for vendors! Email [email protected] to reserve your spot. Space is limited to about 10–12 tables (feel free to team up with friends), plus outdoor space for larger items.

Last week's Clothing Closet at Safe Haven Shelter and Resource Center for their April Wellness Day - all thanks to everyone who came to March's Clothing Swap at Ursa Minor Brewing and the clothing left over.

HUUUUUUGE NEWS!!!

We have noticed for a long time both the environmental impact of leftover art and craft supplies going into the trash/water supply AND the lack of affordable and accessible art supplies in Duluth/Superior.

Not everyone has the means or the desire to go over the hill to a big box store (No thanks, Hobby Lobby and Walmart 🖕🏼) or the money or desire to order online.

Soooooo… we are introducing REcreative.

A new initiative that takes donations of quality art and craft supplies and repackages, organizes, displays and offers them to our community.
