Meet Chef Tracy Owens

Chef Tracy A Owens began her culinary journey seven years ago in Duluth, Minnesota, following a bold career pivot from big-box retail management to the dynamic world of hospitality. Originally from the Southwest, the move to Duluth sparked a passion for the restaurant industry, eventually landing her first kitchen role as a prep cook at The Duluth Grill.

Over the next three years, Chef Owens honed her skills while also launching her own cottage baking business, Effing Desserts. Her pursuit of growth led her to Lake Avenue Restaurant, where under the mentorship of Chef Jeffrey Ken Zervas, she gained invaluable experience in fine dining and developed a comprehensive pastry program.

In just two years, Chef Owens advanced to Co-Executive Chef, guiding the Lake Avenue team and shaping a fresh chapter for the beloved Duluth establishment. Through this experience, she cultivated a deep appreciation for both global and local cuisines and their power to create memorable, meaningful dining experiences.

Today, Chef Owens serves as Chef de Cuisine at Alto pino restaurant, bringing her creativity and expertise to one of Duluth’s newest culinary destinations. She is thrilled to collaborate once again with Chef Zervas for Women of Distinction: A Culinary Affair at The Cotton Mansion, where together they will present an evening of exceptional cuisine and wine in celebration of trailblazing women throughout history.

🌿 Featured Wine: Lady of the Sunshine 🌿

As part of our celebration of women in history and women in winemaking, Women of Distinction: A Culinary Affair will showcase exceptional wines from female-led brands, including the beautifully expressive Pinot Noir by Gina Hildebrand, founder of Lady of the Sunshine.

Gina established Lady of the Sunshine in 2017, inspired by her upbringing on her family’s Biodynamic-certified vineyard in Northern California. After years of refining her craft around the world, Gina now creates wines on California’s Central Coast with a focus on organic and biodynamic farming and minimal intervention winemaking.

For this special evening, we’ll be pouring her Pinot Noir from Lindsley Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains—an organic vineyard producing wines that are elegant, vibrant, and reflective of their coastal terroir . Crafted with native yeast and aged in neutral oak, this wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its purest expression. Ginas wine will be paired with a delicious course crafted by the talented Chef Tracy A Owens of Alto pino restaurant.
