Costco's board of directors unanimously rejected a proposal from the National Center for Public Policy Research, a conservative think tank, which called for an evaluation of the risks associated with the company's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The board emphasized its commitment to "respect and inclusion," stating that such principles are "appropriate and necessary" for the company. They argued that the requested report would not provide meaningful additional information.
This decision comes amid a broader trend where some companies are scaling back DEI efforts; however, Costco maintains that its DEI policies foster creativity and innovation within the company.
